McTrans Participates and Exhibits at ITE Annual Meeting
McTrans attended the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) 2019 Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas from Sunday, July 21st through Tuesday, July 23rd. Vishal Khanapure, the Assistant Director for McTrans, hosted the McTrans/UFTI exhibit booth. McTrans attends these annual meetings to market and promote its software products and training courses such as the Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and webinars related to Highway Capacity Analysis. Khanapure connected with several McTrans customers and former UF students during this event; communication with the customers helps in formulating ideas for improving the software products in future releases. UFTI External Advisory Board (EAB) members Milton Carrasco, Ron Boenau and Marsha Anderson-Bomar visited the booth. This year, many engineers who stopped by the booth expressed interest in the Highway Safety Software (HSS), which is a new traffic safety analysis and design software based on the Highway Safety Manual, developed and distributed by McTrans.

UF Alumni: Muhammad Ali
This summer Dr. Lily Elefteriadou attended the T&DI Pavement conference in Chicago, IL, where she ran into alumnus Muhammad Ali (see photo). Ali completed his master’s degree in the UF Civil Engineering/Transportation program . He is currently working in the Chicago office of Ghafari Associates, which is a global consulting firm specializing in engineering, architecture, process design and construction. While at UF, Ali worked on various projects under the guidance of Dr. Scott Washburn related to lane closures and roadway capacity and participated in another project related to storm water infrastructure repair. He also has worked on various projects world-wide and is thrilled about the challenges related to his job. Ali considers life after graduation to be very different from outside of school. He says that in school, students are given questions to solve, but in the real world engineers first have to figure out the problems before finding solutions.
