UF Undergrads Reestablish the WTS Student Chapter, Paving the Road for Student Leadership and Opportunities

A dedicated group of civil engineering students has revived UF's WTS Advancing Women in Transportation student chapter which had been dormant since the pandemic. The student chapter worked with Amanda Woods, director of Transportation and senior vice president at DRMP, Inc., Fatema Hoque Farzana of HNTB, Stacey Russell of GPI, Jarrell Smith of VHB, and Ines Aviles-Spadoni, a research coordinator at the University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI). The chapter will offer various opportunities for students who join, such as connecting with representatives from the transportation industry, building professional networks, field trips, career-building activities, transportation-related symposia, and seminars. There is a Secret Behind Smarter Bridges: Digital Twin Technology

An exciting new technology is helping scientists and engineers monitor bridge infrastructure, identifying maintenance issues before they become serious.

This new technology, highlighted by Aaron Costin, associate professor at UF’s M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management and Alireza Adibfar, (UF 2020), project manager at Project Management Advisors, Inc., in their book chapter titled “Digital Twin for Bridges and Structures: Practical Applications and Challenges,” has the potential to transform the way structural engineers manage bridges. The chapter is included in the book Digital Twins in Construction and the Built Environment published by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). [Read more]

Sherrilene Classen Honored for Elevating the Field of Driving Rehabilitation

Sherrilene Classen, professor and chair of UF’s Department of Occupational Therapy, has been awarded the Award of Excellence by the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) for her tireless efforts during her tenure as chair of the ADED Research Committee from 2022 to 2024. Her leadership created strategic initiatives that helped elevate the driving rehabilitation field, recognizing it as an evidence-based academic discipline [Read more]
