Milton Carrasco, CEO and president of Transoft Solutions, Inc., awarded Hope Sotolongo-Miranda and Savanna Stockton, both UF civil engineering students, with the Transoft Solutions Scholarship Award at the WTS Symposium on March 28, 2019. The Transoft scholarship is for junior or senior civil engineering undergraduate students specializing in transportation. Preference is given to student(s) involved with the Women’s Transportation Seminar Florida Gator Student Chapter.

WTS Florida Gator Student Chapter Hosts 9th Annual WTS Symposium

The WTS Florida Gator Student Chapter at the University of Florida hosted their annual Symposium on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the Arredondo Cafe, Reitz Union (UF Campus). The focus of this year's symposium was "Big Data in Transportation" with topics such as cyber security, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), performance optimization of intersections performance, and video processing.
"We are grateful for the effort and time our guest speakers invested in sharing with us their vast knowledge in their fields," said Marilo Martin-Gasulla, president of the WTS student chapter. "This event was a total success thanks to the hard work of all our WTS officers, sponsors and advisory board members."

UFTI Spotlight: Dr. Zoleikha Biron
|
Dr. Zoleikha Biron recently joined the University of Florida Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as an assistant professor. Dr. Biron's research focuses on cyber physical systems with applications in intelligent transportation systems, connected and autonomous vehicles, power systems and the integration of electric vehicles with smart power systems. She is also interested in utilizing control theory, optimization, estimation and fault diagnostics techniques to enhance the security, reliability, and efficiency of cyber physical systems.
Prior to joining UF, she spent 18 months at the Clemson University International Center of Automotive Research (CU_ICAR) as a post-doctoral researcher. Dr. Biron received her Ph.D. from Clemson University in 2017 and her master's and bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering from K.N. Toosi University of Technology and University of Tehran, respectively. At Clemson, she was selected as best Ph.D. student in the International Center of Automotive Research (CU_ICAR), and her research has been published in several peer evaluated journals and conferences.

Girl Scouts Learn about Transportation Engineering

Dr. Lily Elefteriadou presented at the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Girl Scout Merit Badge Day Event on Saturday, March 16, 2019. This event introduced Girl Scouts in middle- and high-school to civil engineering. Dr. Elefteriadou gave an introductory overview of transportation engineering and research on advanced autonomous and connected vehicle technologies.

UFTI Invites Applications for McTrans Director
|
The Director of McTrans oversees the maintaining, enhancing, and marketing of the Highway Capacity Software. Additionally, the director will be actively involved with the I-STREET initiative, working with UFTI faculty and staff to develop educational software, and participate in the activities of professional developments such as TRB, ASCE, ASEE, and IEEEs.
