UFTI Testing Driver Alerts in Active School Zones
The University of Florida has partnered with Temple, Inc. and Applied Information, Inc., to test and evaluate the use of GPS and cell phone technology that can send an alert or warning message on the driver’s cell phone if the driver is speeding in an active school zone. Dr. Eakta Jain from the UF department of computer and information science and engineering is the lead principal investigator (PI) on this project along with co-principal investigators Dr. Clark Letter and Dr. Siva Srinivasan from the UF department of civil engineering.
UFTI Evaluates Advanced Vehicle and Communication Technologies through Traffic Micro Simulation
Dr. Clark Letter, research assistant professor at the UFTI, is collaborating with the Georgia Institute of Technology on a STRIDE project on the "Evaluation of Advanced Vehicle and Communication Technologies through Traffic Microsimulation." The co-principal investigators on this project are Dr. Lily Elefteriadou of the UFTI along with researchers from Georgia Tech - Dr. Mike Hunter and Dr. Chip White. The goal of this project is to develop a microsimulation extension for advanced transportation management strategies and evaluation procedures in relation to connected and autonomous vehicles.
McTrans to Work with SwRI on FDOT District 5 Project Regarding R-ICMS using HCS7
The UFTI’s McTrans Center will be working with the Southwest Research Institute’s (SwRI) Critical Systems Department (CSD) as subject matter expert consultants for HCS7 (a product of McTrans) under the Central Florida Regional Integrated Corridor Management System (R-ICMS) project. McTrans Director Bill Sampson will serve as the PI with assistance from Vishal Khanapure, assistant director for McTrans. SwRI was awarded the project by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 5 for the purpose of designing and developing the R-ICMS. The project will be active from 2018 to 2020.

The WTS Florida Gator Student Chapter at the University of Florida will be hosting their annual WTS Symposium on March 28, 2019. The topic of this year's symposium is "Big Data in Transportation." The symposium will be held at the Reitz Union on the UF campus. Stay tuned for more details!
