Thoughts From Current HRB Members on Their Experience Serving on the HRB:

"I joined the HRB to be an active part of shaping the community in which my children are growing up. I also think it is important to lead by example and be the change."

"I ran for HRB to meet my neighbors, learn how our unique community works, and try to make it better for all of us — especially children (including ours). I got more than I bargained for! I’ve met people of all ages, experts of all kinds, in every UHills phase."

"I ran for the HRB because after living in UHills for a decade I felt a chilly indifference in the community, a sense that we were workforce housing, not a neighborhood. I saw HRB as a potential way to change that."

"Coming from a housing background through my employment with UCI, I wanted to see what this community was all about. While diverse, it felt disconnected. I wanted to hold folks accountable for what they say related to diversity, equity and inclusion. It's a work in progress, but work does get done."

"I ran for HRB to better understand the way UHills operates and help address the housing situation. I found it very rewarding to help with the entertainment and arts part because I can directly see the affect on our community — smiling faces and creating connections!"

"As far back as I can recall, I have been passionate about the value of community. I believe community enhances the individual, gives us a sense of belonging, a vehicle for problem-solving, and offers a greater source of strength in difficult times. It allows us to celebrate our connections and bring unity and joy into each others' lives. I ran for the HRB to represent and support our community and shape the future of UHills."
