NASA Launches Satellite Built by ECE Students and Faculty
A satellite developed by UK ECE students and faculty was launched April 18 on NASA's OA-7 ISS cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
Backseat Driver: ECE Student Making Driverless Vehicles a Reality
From his start in a Toyota internship to a summer at California startup Faraday Future to a full-time position at Iris Automation, Angelo Stekardis is working to make driverless vehicles a reality.
Power and Energy Experiences students get Real-World Education
Students in UK’s Power and Energy Institute (PEIK) Energy Experiences course recently got a real-world look at power. PEIK and partners LG&E/KU, TVA, EKPC and Duke, provided students an immersive experience through visits to regional facilities for electricity generation, distribution, and management.
ECE Bringing State-of-the-Art Technology to the DJ chair
UK Computer Engineering students, Grant Sparks and Mitch Mullins are bringing new school optimization to an old school radio station. 
IEEE UK Student Branch Participates in SoutheastCon 2017
Fourteen UK Engineering students traveled to IEEE SoutheastCon 2017 in Charlotte, NC, to participate in a series of hardware and software competitions. Teams for next year and for the fall IEEE Xtreme competition are already forming - for more information contact the IEEE advisor Dr. Regina Hannemann.

Two ECE alumni,  Allan Brown (EE '87) and  Elmer T. Lee (EE '49, posthumous), were inducted into the UK Engineering Hall of Distinction this spring.

Thapliyal wins Best Paper Award for Applying Quantum Computing Technology to Cybersecurity
ECE Faculty member Dr. Himanshu Thapliyal and his students T. Varun and Dinesh Kumar recently won a Best Paper Award for their paper entitled "UTB-SOI Based Adiabatic Computing for Low Power and Secure IoT Devices". 
Ionel releases Renewable Energy Systems Text
Dr. Dan M. Ionel, ECE Professor and L. Stanley Pigman Chair in Power, recently released his co-authored book Renewable Energy Devices and Systems with Simulations in MATLAB® and ANSYS®, published by CRC Press. 
Adams, Lu and Young Receive NASA Grant
ECE Professors Adams , Lu, and Young have been awarded a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration entitled “Fast Computational Electromagnetic Methods for GEMINI”. The grant will support the integration of computer modeling technologies and tools developed at the University of Kentucky within NASA’s Gemini simulation tool.
