Forestry Students Hard at Work This Summer
In the last E-News, we featured several students in their summer jobs. This issue continues to highlight our students working throughout the country and the globe to gain valuable experience and help prepare them to be successful forestry professionals.

Centre in Thailand. I am assisting in recording data and monitoring the progress of the recovering forest.

This summer I am cruising timber on lands managed by RMS. This information is used by foresters at the office to inform management decisions.
Sarah Hays
Research intern with the UK Forest Health Center and UK Forestry Extension in Lexington, KY
I am working with UK's Forest Health Center to conduct research on the phenology of common invasive species to our region, such as wintercreeper and honeysuckle. I am also assisting UK Forestry Extension coordinating a program aimed at educating and empowering private landowners to be effective advocates for sustainable woodland stewardship in their communities.
Graduate Student Highlight - Jonathan Matthews
This week’s graduate student highlight is Jonathan Matthews, a second year M.S. student from Louisville, Kentucky working with Drs. Matthew Springer and John Cox. Jonathan did his undergraduate work at UK, majoring in Natural Resources and Environmental Science. Jonathan’s graduate work is focused on white-tailed deer influences on agricultural systems in western Kentucky. Jonathan is the current president of the Forestry and Natural Resource Graduate Student Association. As a professional, Jonathan wants to continue working with wildlife management and conservation biology.
