Jeff Lievense (BSE 1976), recent inductee into the National Academy of Engineering, is convinced that the chemical engineering program at the University of Michigan defined his professional career.  

Stephen Hart received Alumni Award 

Stephen Hart (BSE 1977), the former Global Vice President of Supply, Trading and Transportation at ExxonMobil was the guest of honor at this year's ChE Luncheon with Alumni. Learn more >

Walter J. Weber, Jr. Lecture 

Abhaya Datye (PhD '84),  from the University of New Mexico, presented the 2019 Walter J. Weber Jr. Lecture. His lecture topic was "Designing Catalysts for Meeting the DOE 150 Degrees Celsius Challenge for Exhaust Emissions."

Lahann appointed collegiate professor

Joerg Lahann was appointed the Wolfgang Pauli Collegiate Professor of Chemical Engineering and  was honored at a ceremony on October 9, 2019.

bio-inspired catalyst
A chiral catalyst created by researchers in Nick Kotov's lab is at least 10 times better at selecting a particular version of a chiral molecule than earlier catalysts of this type.  Learn more >
"Wearable" device captures cancer cells from blood
Researchers in Sunitha Nagrath's lab developed a prototype wearable device that can better diagnose and treat cancer. The device, not yet tested on humans, collects live cancer cells directly from a patient's blood.  Learn more >
Sustainable biofuel
  The US has been using corn to produce ethanol, rather than woody "cellulosic" material. Efficient microbes for converting cellulose to biofuel being developed in Fei Wen's lab could change the game.  Learn more >
Dual Wavelength 3D printing
  A new 3D printing method developed by researchers in Mark Burns' and Tim Scott's groups solidifies liquid resin using two colors of light to control where the resin hardens and where it stays fluid.  Learn more >

Xplore will be held on June 25-26, 2020 and Discovery is slated for July 30-31, 2020.  Xplore Engineering is for 4th-7th graders and Discover is for 8th-10th graders.
