PSLI to Feature Sustainability Leadership Track

Consider joining the President's Student Leadership Institute (PSLI), UMB's signature leadership development program open to all students. PSLI helps you to chart your own course through leadership development while engaging with topics such as sustainability, civic engagement, and social responsibility. Through interactive workshops and structured reflection, participants gain the tools to lead ethically and collaboratively in their professions and communities.  This year, four core tracks will be offered, including Sustainability Leadership.

Sustainability Showcase

Wendell Berry, Poet

Wendell is an American author whose work is rooted in his experiences as a farmer. He focuses on environmental responsibility and how important the human connection to the environment is.

Here is his poem, "The Peace of Wild Things":

When despair for the world grows in me

and I wake in the night at the least sound

in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,

I go and lie down where the wood drake

rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.

I come into the peace of wild things

who do not tax their lives with forethought

of grief. I come into the presence of still water.

And I feel above me the day-blind stars

waiting with their light. For a time

I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
