Final Reviews in the Design District start today and  continue through April 26  at the beautiful Moore Building in the Design District. Everyone is invited to attend a reception at the Moore Building at the close of reviews on Tuesday, April 26. Building Tradition will be on exhibition for one day only, Thursday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Korach Gallery, with a reception at 5 p.m. The University of Miami presidential chair, or cathedra, made by furniture maker and adjunct professor, Austin Matheson, is a new official symbol of the Office of the President, a symbol of the seat of learning. The chair will be on display as well as drawings, models, and patterns demonstrating the process of creating the chair from tree to finished object. Read More. 

Enjoy Havana Nights at the annual Black & White Ball! On Friday, April 29, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., join students and faculty to celebrate the end of the school year at Books & Books in Coral Gables. Tickets will be sold for $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Shuttles to and from the ball will be provided and semi-formal attire is requested. See your Student Council representative to get your tickets! 

Join the students of Arch 581 for an exhibition of their work, in the Korach Gallery on Tuesday, May 3. The exhibition runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and includes a reception at 5 p.m. 

Honors Day is Thursday, May 5 at 8 a.m . in Glasgow Hall. Please join this celebration of graduating students and special awards presentation, followed by a continental breakfast in the Korach Gallery. 

The graduate Commencement Ceremony is Thursday, May 5 at 4 p.m. in the BankUnited Center. Undergraduate Commencement will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 6, also at the BUC. Come see your fellow students receive their degrees and then join everyone for a reception in the Korach Gallery afterward.

UM Fosters Cross-Disciplinary Study on Climate Change
In time for Earth Day, the University of Miami, one of the top research universities in the United States, has created a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary, and interactive initiative to highlight the many areas its scientists, researchers, alumni and students are working in toward solving the climate change crisis. UM just released a huge interdisciplinary report on Climate Change, including discussion of the built environment that includes work and commentary by Dean Rodolphe el-Khoury and professors Sonia Chao, Adib Cure, Joanna Lombard, John Onyango and Carie Penabad, discussing everything from informal cities to smart cities to resilient building and how healthy buildings make healthy people.   Climate Change Report

Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society Inducted New Class April 15
The Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society in Architecture and Allied Arts is the national honor society for architecture and design majors. The Society recognizes intellectual achievement, effort and initiative as well as leadership and character. This prize of membership is awarded to graduate and undergraduate students who attain high academic standing in their field. The UMSoA chapter of TSD inducted 11 new members April 15. Read More.

UMSoA Student Recognized at Business Plan Competition
Michaela Senior and her partner, Paula Landron, entered the annual UM Business Plan Competition with an idea that could transform late night dining on the UM campus. Their project was recognized with the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, a prize of $1,000. More than 100 plans were entered in the competition. Congratulations, Michaela!   

Alpha Rho Chi Is Soliciting Art For Its Silent Auction
Last year's silent art auction was a success, tripling the fundraising goal set by the chapter and Alpha Rho Chi is now soliciting art to auction in the fall. They are asking for donations of original art created by current students, faculty and alumni to auction.
