Updates from OTCV
Invention activity increases during 2nd Quarter. UMassD inventors filed 5 new invention disclosures during the second quarter, bringing the year's total to 8 (already exceeding the total for all of Fiscal Year 2017!), and we've filed two new patent applications, for a total of five for FY18 so far. Congratulations to Drs. Yong Kim and Armand Lewis of Bioengineering for the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 9,788,589, Entitled "Flexible, Fibrous Energy Managing Composite Panels".
New Y2K Problem? The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will be issuing Patent Number 10,000,000 sometime next year, which will be the first U.S. patent with 8 digits. An early discussion of a new Y2K-like problem this may cause can be found at   this 2015 blog entry. Any predictions of when Patent 10,000,000 will issue? Contact David Glass - if there is enough interest we can start an informal pool to win a gift certificate!
APLU Report on Tech Transfer. A recent report from the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities suggests that university tech transfer offices should focus more on the economic and social impact of their innovations, and that by continuing the traditional focus on revenue generation, offices are limiting their impact on entrepreneurial activities. Download the report, and let David Glass know what you think of its recommendations.
