Outstanding Awards
Congratulations to Dr. Walaa Mogawer on his new award in the amount of $993,178 from Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).  Dr. Mogawer will be working on development of a balanced mixture design procedure for MassDOT with associated performance related specification, MassDOT annual profiler certification and upgrade of the MassDOT pavement distress manual.

Congratulations to Dr. Sigal Gottlieb on a new project in collaboration with  Drs. Yanlai Chen, Gaurav Khanna, Alfa Heryudono, Scott Field, Maricris Mayes, Amit Tandon, Geoffrey Cowles, Bo Dong, Mehdi Raessi, Vanni Bucci & Mazdak Tootkaboni funded by the Office of Naval Research.

Award amount: $643,899
Title: A Heterogeneous Terascale Computing Cluster for the Development of GPU Optimized High-order Numerical Methods.

OTCV Updates
UMassD OTCV has just concluded a productive Fiscal Year 2018. We received 12 invention disclosures during the year, and as of this writing, we've filed 14 U.S. patent applications, with two or three others expected to be filed before the end of the year. One patent was issued during the year, but we expect several others to be granted in FY19. We received almost $90,000 in revenue (license fees plus patent cost reimbursement) for the year.
 
Faithful readers may remember from the December 2017 SPA Newsletter the long-awaited issuance of U.S. Patent No. 10,000,000. This patent was issued on June 19, 2018.  It was awarded to Joseph Marron of Raytheon for "Coherent Ladar Using Intra-Pixel Quadrature Detection". Effort Certification
The upcoming effort certification can be completed in ECRT from July 30 through August 31, 2018.

UMassD will transition over to annual effort certification (fall, 2018).

The revised Terms and Conditions will apply to all new NSF awards and funding amendments to existing NSF awards made on or after March 1, 2018.  The long-awaited OMB Memorandum addressing
implementation of the micro-purchase threshold was released on June 20, 2018. Specifically, OMB Memorandum M-18-18, implements statutory changes to the micro-purchase and the simplified acquisition thresholds for financial assistance.
