Important Meeting Dates
FMCH research-in-progress meetings are held monthly on the 2nd Friday of each month at 10:00am. These small group meetings are designed for research faculty to discuss any part of their research (final results not required) and gather feedback from colleagues.
- Our next research-in-progress meeting will be on Friday, February 9th at 10:00am.

On Friday, March 22nd, we will have an extended IN PERSON gathering from 9:00am - 12:00pm. Save the date and RSVP! Note: this will replace the previously scheduled March 8th date.
- We are still looking for volunteer presenters in 2024. Please sign up if you haven’t already.
A reminder that the FMCH research forum is scheduled on the 3rd Friday of each month at 12:00pm noon. All are welcome.

Restoring Balance: Increasing Clinician Connection and Care -
A Program to Enhance Flourishing
Join our 5-week, 1-hour online course starting January 26th, 2024, 8:00-9:00am. Paula Gardiner, MD, MPH and Shahida Fareed, PsyD, will lead participants over 5-weeks in a training that aims to improve wellbeing and personal resilience by teaching mindful self-compassion skills to deal with distressing emotional situations, and difficult patient interactions as they occur at work. All healthcare professionals interested in enhancing patient connections, improving communication skills, or promoting well-being in the healthcare field are welcome. The course is $180, and payment can be made by credit card, UMass internal transfer, or UMass CME funds. Lucy Candib has authored/edited a book entitled Family Doctors Say Goodbye with her co-author/editor Will Miller. The Department, in partnership with the medical school library, will host an event on March 6th at 6:00pm live on campus for a discussion of the book and about transitions in general as a medical clinician. Please plan to attend.

Department Member Recognition
Congratulations to Jillian Joseph, PA-C, our New Lead APP for the Family Medicine Department. We are thankful and excited about working with the Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners in our Department. Every one of them is vital and is a huge asset to our team. John Campagna, MD/MPH, completed Pediatrics residency at Tripler AMC in Hawaii, Adolescent Medicine residency in UT San Antonio and has served in the United States Armed Forces since then.

Jennifer Maldonado, DO, from UConn Emergency Medicine Residency
The Worcester FM Residency community is incredibly grateful to Dr. Kristina Gracey for her service in her role as the Women's Health Education Director. Dr. Gracey has been a steady presence in the residents' educational experience on labor and delivery for the last seven years and has recently decided to transition out of this role to focus more on her patients in Barre. She has provided thoughtful leadership throughout these last seven years, leading innovations in women's health residency education including trauma-informed care, anti-racism and obstetrical ultrasound. Dr. Gracey has worked diligently to elicit residents' goals and incorporate them into their rotation experiences. She has tirelessly listened to residents' and faculty's concerns and has worked collaboratively to make improvements. We truly appreciate your leadership, Kristina!

- 69,594 confirmed COVID-19 cases this season.
- There have been 40 COVID-19 deaths during this period and 615 confirmed deaths this season.
COVID-19 UMMMC
- The prior 7-day average is 7.1% compared to 3.3% last week.
- The confirmed 7-day average of COVID-19 positive patients in-house is 41 with 79% fully vaccinated.
- There are 4 patients in the ICU and 3 of the 4 are fully vaccinated.
