Message From the Chair

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I wish you and your families the best for 2025.

A highlight of 2025 will be our 50th Anniversary Celebration and Reunion on March 15th after, and in collaboration, with the Mass AFP spring refresher. You can now register! Saturday afternoon will kick off with a casual networking lunch followed by a program that explores the role of family medicine in health and health justice and culminate with a networking reception.

We have received corporate sponsorship to defray some of the costs of the event, so the ticket price is just $75. You can also make an additional charitable donation to fund the attendance of a medical student or resident – supporting our focus on the next 50 years of family medicine.

You will hear some great speakers, including Donald Berwick, MD, MPP, FRCP, former administrator at CMS and president emeritus and senior fellow at IHI, Michael Curry, Esq., President and CEO of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, Renee B. Critchlow, MD, FAAFP, Clinical Associate Professor Boston University Dept. of FM and CMO at Codman Square Community Health Center, Robert L Philips, MD, MSPH, Executive Director, American Board of Family Medicine, with emcee Wayne Altman, chair of the Tufts Department of Family Medicine (and a distinguished alumnus of our medical school and residency). Massachusetts Governor Maura Healy has the day on her schedule, and we hope to welcome her and other guests and performers throughout the afternoon.

Register here by February 24th: Family Medicine 50th Celebration Registration

What's Happening with DEAP? Launch of the FMCH Diversity Response Team

The FMCH Diversity Response Team includes ombudspeople trained in restorative justice principles who are embedded in the department at different sites and in different positions. Our goal is for each member of the department to feel there is someone they trust to help them process events that impact them negatively and to consider the full range of reporting and response options available for achieving restorative justice. If you've experienced or witnessed harm, you can now complete the Ombuds Support Form to let us know what's happening anonymously and/or to seek support and guidance as you consider your options for reporting to entities outside the department. The Department is actively tracking issues that impact Diversity and Inclusion. For more details and the permanent link to the form, check out the new FMCH Social Justice and Inclusion page under About Us on the department website. We'd love your feedback as we pilot this new tool.

  • The Family Medicine Diversity and Action Plan Committee has selected the ombudsmen for the pilot.
  • Ombudsmen are training and becoming familiar with the goals and objectives, process, and key learning about Restorative Justice and their role on the team.
  • Your ombudsmen are:
  • Dr. Jennnifer Bradford
  • Dr. Alexa Connell
  • Dr. Shahida Fareed
  • Dr. Josephine Fowler
  • Dr. Claudeleedy Pierre
  • Dr. Heather-Lyn Haley
  • Dr. Laquita Morris
  • Dr. Sarah Pearson
  • Jennifer Bradford MD, MPH, Director
