Summer Scholarship Writing Circles

Mondays in June & July, 12:00-1:00pm

Have you been putting off that scholarly project? Have you had difficulty making time to write? Summer Scholarship Writing Circles provide the space and time for you to make progress on that paper, presentation or curriculum. The hybrid (in-person and virtual) sessions will consist mostly of quiet writing time, with an opportunity to get support from your faculty peers. In-person (Lamar Soutter Library Conference Room at UMass Chan Medical School) & virtual options for participation.

Annual performance reviews (APRs) for clinical faculty will open in early June 2025 (with deadlines to complete in late August). In support of the transition to the new online process for APRs, we are offering a range of training opportunities. These will include a variety of formats to cater to different learning preferences. Two live 1-hour Zoom training sessions will be available for faculty as well as two live 1-hour sessions for Chairs/Supervisors. Sessions will be recorded for later viewing. The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) has written job aids and short "tips" videos on their website, and offer open OFA office hours every Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM

UMass Med Moth is back! Save the date: Wednesday, June 11th, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the Albert Sherman Center Multi-Purpose Room/Cafeteria. Med Moth is an event based on the Moth Story Hour where 6-8 members of the UMass Community (SOM, GSN, GSBS, Baystate, and Lahey) share stories for 5-10 minutes each. Past talks have been about the speaker's journey into medicine, meaningful patient encounters, or other experiences that have shaped one's personal or professional identity in health care. Looking for a diverse set of speakers and stories. UMass Chan has announced the timeline for application for this year’s Remillard Family Community Service Fund. The Fund is dedicated solely to providing ongoing support for a variety of community outreach programs provided by faculty, clinical staff, residents and students of UMass Chan Medical School. As such, the chancellor of the Medical School or his assignees will use the annual distributions of this endowed fund to support community service programs designed and executed by these groups for the benefit of the community. Proposals are due no later than June 23rd, 2025 and the budget cannot exceed $20,000 for one year of duration. More information is available here.


The Road to Care Mobile Clinic will be hosting the final cohort of Transforming Care ECHO: Harm Reduction, Overdose Prevention, and Management of Opioid Use Disorder. This is a unique remote learning opportunity that will cover the basics of caring for patients with OUD as well as offer feedback and expert guidance on patient cases. Sessions will run remotely on Thursdays from 12-1pm every other week now through June 26th. The 2025-2026 BRC Fellowship Call for Applications Is Open

The Building Research Capacity (BRC) Fellowship has 3 aims:

  • Coaching: Provide coaching support to build research and scholarship capacity within a program or institution
  • Support: Develop a peer support network among other individuals or teams trying to build research capacity
  • Strategic Planning: Create a strategic plan for research and scholarship within their home program/institution

Congratulations to Rick Sacra at Family Health Center of Worcester for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Medical Society meeting on

May 16th. 


Congratulations to Phil Fornier for receiving the 2025 Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. The awardee is nominated by students, residents, and faculty in the UMass Chan Gold Humanism Honor Society. The society is guided by the Arnold P Gold Foundation’s vision statement: “Healthcare will be dramatically improved by placing human interests, values and dignity at the core of teaching and practice.”
