All UMass Memorial clinical caregivers must report whether they have received or are declining to receive the fall 2024 COVID-19 and flu vaccines by December 15th.

Reporting is an online process using the Qyk Vaccine Reporting Tool.* To log in to the Qyk tool, use your standard UMass Memorial Health network ID and password. This is the same method you use to log on to the UMass Clinical network each day with your 15-digit (or longer) password. Remember, your Network ID is not the same as your email address.

Important links below - please act today:

*IMPORTANT: Individuals who do not have access to the Qyk tool must send their vaccine documentation directly to their organization or school for proper filing. Thank you for helping us ensure we meet this critical reporting deadline.

Med Moth is looking for speakers at its winter event Wednesday January 8th, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the Albert Sherman Center Multi-Purpose Room (Cafeteria). Med Moth is an event based on The Moth Story Hour where 6-8 members of the UMass Community (SOM, GSN, GSBS, GME, and Baystate) share stories for 5-10 minutes each. Past talks have been about the speaker's journey into medicine, meaningful patient encounters, or other experiences that have shaped one's personal or professional identity in health care. Some have been humorous (a horrible first day of internship) and others have been more serious (coping with the guilt of making a medical error) but the topic is up to the speaker. We seek to highlight a diverse collection of voices and capture the richness of experiences of the members of our UMass-Chan community.

Those interested in sharing a story can contact the event organizers, Aly Wayne (alysandria.wayne@umassmed.edu) or Mariam Tolba (mariam.tolba@umassmed.edu). Talks do not need to be scripted or pre-approved.

The 2025 Faculty for Tomorrow Workshop for Residents will be held on May 3rd, 2025 as part of the STFM Annual Spring Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. See link for additional information.

Presentations and Publications

Hugh Silk gave a presentation to the National Academy of State Health Policy- Oral Health Workgroup on the topic of Addressing Oral Health for Those with Substance Use Disorder on November 12th about his local RIZE grant funded project with Road to Care. The goal was to influence state policy to increase funding for oral health management for patients with SUD through creative solutions.

Thanks to residents, Drs. Opeoluwa Olukorede, Jonathan Smith, Myra Khawar and Danielle Coderre who shared their career paths and passion for Family Medicine with students in the Primary Care Principles Optional Enrichment Elective, co-sponsored by FMIG and supported by a grant from AAFP.

Philip Bolduc was recently a co-author of an article published in the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care titled “A Forecast of the HIV Clinician Workforce Need in the United States: Results of a Quantitative National Survey”. The foundation of the article was a quantitative, anonymous, one-time, self-administered survey completed by 1,004 prescribing clinicians currently providing HIV-related health care.

Department Member Recognition

Welcome to Kayla Baez, FNP who joined Fitchburg and Victoria Landry, PMNHP who joined Barre in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry.

Congratulations to the New England AIDS Education and Training Center team under the leadership of PI Philip Bolduc and, in particular Kristin Moccia, program manager for the announcement that they will receive the Flame of HIV/AIDS Activism award on December 6th. This is a distinguished honor for organizations that have demonstrated unwavering commitment and made significant contributions toward ending the HIV epidemic in Massachusetts. Represented by a vibrant glass flame, this award celebrates the organizations –and the advocates within them–who refuse to let the flame that carries the legacy and dreams of millions of HIV advocates before us flicker out. This award is given by Getting to Zero Massachusetts, an initiative of Fenway Health.
