Faculty Resource Fair

The Office of Faculty Affairs is holding a Faculty Resource Fair on September 28th from 11:30am-1:30pm in the school lobby, please see details [here].

The Worcester Free Care Collaborative (WFCC) programs are seeing a rising number of people seeking care due to the settlement of new refugees. They need the help of additional physicians and APPs. Their faculty advisor, Jim Ledwith, is happy to share about how the free care programs work with anyone interested ([email protected]). The work is generally relaxed, and it is a real pleasure to see our students developing their clinical skills and connecting their studies to real patient care in their 1st and 2nd years. Please don't feel a need to commit to weekly volunteering – a single evening or once every 1-2 months would be greatly appreciated! Programs run from Monday to Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00pm. If you are interested in getting involved, even if just for one shift, let student Gil Avramovich know when you can attend.(g[email protected]) Thanks.

The Worcester Healthy Baby Collaborative is thrilled to host its 10th annual Infant Mortality Summit on Tuesday October 3rd, 2023 from 8:30am-12noon, VIRTUALLY.

We are once again highlighting the connection between breastfeeding and infant mortality and presenting this summit in conjunction with the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition’s annual conference. Our theme is Latch On! Supporting Latino and Black Families with Lactation: Examples of Community Programs featuring speakers from 4 different programs and a community panel of their clients. This year we are so excited to be able to offer AAFP CME for the conference. Please see attached flyer and REGISTER today through the link on the flyer.

(There is NO same-day registration and the only access to this is thru the MBC conference portal, so please register).

The UMass Chan Diversity Summit will be held on October 11th, and for the first time it is open to all members of the institution. This is a great opportunity to learn about work in the community, education, professional development, and recruitment/retention strategies related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Register by September 30th.

Dan Mullin’s work was highlighted in an interview with David Bauman, PsyD for his PCBH Corner. Dr. Bauman said: “Each year, Dan Mullin is at the top of my list and, for multiple factors, I have never been able to have those conversations. So, this PCBH Corner is near and dear to my heart and, as expected, Dan did not disappoint. We have interviewed numerous people in the field and the conversations have been profound and perspective changing; this Corner with Dan is one that I would put up against any of them! My gratitude for this moment with Dan and without question, this is another can't miss Corner! Enjoy!”  PCBH Corner, Episode 58: A Healing Conversation about Primary Care with Dan Mullin, PsyD, MPH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jecqYYmDFWM

Clinical Services Spotlight:

Josephine Fowler, MD, MBA, Vice Chair of Clinical Services

September is National Preparedness Month

Emergencies that impact your health, like floods, hurricanes, and pandemics, are unpredictable. Healthcare practitioners can help their patients protect their own health before, during, and after an emergency by reminding them to make a plan, build a kit, and stay informed.

Emergency Preparedness

Get Added to Our Emergency Notification System

To help keep you and our patients safe, UMass Memorial has expanded our use of an emergency notification system (Rave) to include all Medical Center caregivers. This system has been vetted by IS Security and will allow us to call/email/text you in the event of a life-threatening emergency (active shooter, tornado, unanticipated power loss, etc.) for patients, visitors, and caregivers. This technology also allows you to text us back if you have critical safety information to share. This system WILL NOT be used for non-life-threatening events and will not be used for capacity issues. To update/add/delete the number that we have on file for you and to choose which campuses you would like to receive alerts for, please visit this link. You can then change and update information whenever you’d like. Your username and password are the same as your UMass Memorial login information. Questions? Email [email protected].
