Guess what?
You are kind of unbelievable. No, really, you are.
You are part of this amazing, inspiring group of good-hearted resisters who get stuff done.
In early 2020, Field Team 6 had, to date, registered about 20 thousand new Democrats –and had enjoyed 10s of thousands of informative, proudly partisan, Democrat-positive conversations with voters.
If a fortune teller had predicted that we’d help register 100k new Democrats in 2020, Jason (our genetically optimistic founder), would have kissed the crystal ball and danced around delightedly in surprise and wonder.
If they’d predicted we’d help register 3.1+ million new Democrats before the end of 2021 he might have exploded into a glitter shower of pure joy.
But that’s exactly what we’ve done! Because of you. Us. Together. Unbelievable!
So thank you for showing up to strategy briefings, trainings, and registration drives – both in-person and digital – for handwriting postcards, for pushing out curated posts on social media, for donating your precious time and dollars, and for helping get all of the countless things done behind the scenes that make this beautiful Rube Goldberg Democrat Registering Machine continue to roar.
This is exactly why I’m optimistic about our chances to save the House and Senate and take major governorships (Beto! Stacey!) in 2022. Because all of the dire warnings about history and losing the midterms don’t factor in one important thing: you.
Jason’s off somewhere pretty this week, ignoring emails and texts (per my firm instructions), and recharging his batteries for the first time in years. I hope you’ll do the same when you need to.
And then come back refreshed and raring to go. Because the fortune teller predicts we’re going to do a whole lot of new-Democrat registering between now and the critical 2022 midterms. And with unbelievable you, we are going to defy history! Hoooah!

NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY OF ACTION — TAKE BACK 1/6!
Recently we told you about the National Voter Registration Roundtable, a new group co-founded by our own Director of Operations Wayne Liebman and fellow Super-Organizers Emi Guereca and Will Baum!
The Roundtable brings together national on-the-ground voter registration orgs like Field Team 6, Women’s March Action, Activate America, Center for Common Ground, Sister District, They See Blue, Register Her, Southwest Voter Project, The Civics Center, and many others to eliminate duplicate effort, boost firepower, stretch dollars, fire up volunteers, and register new voters year round.
One of its first projects: turning National Voter Registration Day from a yearly into a monthly event. And the first one is January 6, 2022. What a brilliant way to take back that date!
We are secretly in competition with our sister orgs and we want to put up more registration events than any of 'em. Here's a few on the books already (with more coming from you!)!

TOGETHER WE ELECT!
We are proud to partner with Together We Elect, an incredible organization that's laser-focused on finding new volunteers and inspiring past ones and pointing them to vetted opportunities from progressive organizations like Field Team 6.
They began as Together for 2020, mobilizing more than 10,000 volunteers in critical states to elect Biden/Harris, take the Senate, and hold onto the House. Like FT6, they are all about the midterms now.
Their analytics team researches which organizations and volunteer actions are the most effective and recruits a virtual army to raise funds, register voters, and get them out to vote. VOLUNTEER SHOUT-OUT: PATRICK MEAD |
|
This week we’re shouting out Patrick Mead, a passionate volunteer who is making a positive impact on the world. In addition to working for a local animal shelter helping stray animals, he recently led his first Field Team 6 in-person registration drive. He'll be doing FT6 IT work soon, as well.
Patrick is a software developer who gets pumped up for his activism with songs like “Eve of Destruction” and “Rockin’ in the Free World.” He grew up in a heavily Democratic household, but his political leanings have evolved considerably over time.
He started as a “pro-business” Dem, voting for Paul Tsongas, then became enamored with the free market and switched parties, calling himself a Libertarian Republican. He grew disenchanted with libertarianism, changed into a liberal Republican, but switched his vote to Obama after Palin became McCain’s running mate. He stuck with Obama in 2012, and when Trump got the GOP nod in 2016, he officially left the Republican party for good.
“I've always occupied the center of American politics, whether I was a liberal Republican or a centrist Democrat. I say that knowing that many of my activist friends are to my left politically. That's fine because I will make common cause with anyone who thinks that kids shouldn't be locked in cages, that systematic racism must be addressed, climate change is an emergency, and that people's basic needs — healthcare, education, food, housing — should be met."
The growing threat of the authoritarian right has also greatly motivated him to get and stay active. “I spend an inordinate amount of time worrying that we'll become a kleptocracy such as Hungary, Poland, Turkey, or Russia. Activism is my therapy.”
One of Patrick’s favorite quotes is: "If not you, then who? If not now, then when?"
Married with three kids, Patrick enjoys working with Field Team 6 because of our focus on voter registration and how our partisan conversations are also canvasses. “I don't want to spend time on activities whose payoff is years away. I don't want moral victories. My only goal is to crush the fascists in the next two elections. F*#$ those a$$holes. They can have my democracy after they pry it out of my cold dead hands.”
Patrick, we salute your passion and Heston quote riff, and most of all your dedication and work to keep democracy alive in America and extend its benefits to everyone.
