UNC Facilities Services has partnered with Emergency Management and Planning to provide elevator outage notifications through the Carolina Ready Safety app. Carolina students, faculty and staff can now opt in to receive “Elevator Outage Push Notifications” via their mobile devices when an elevator on campus is down for service.
While we understand the inconvenience any elevator outage causes, we hope that this notification system will help the Carolina community better navigate campus and make alternative plans for reaching their destination if necessary.
To receive these notifications, first download the Carolina Ready safety app, which is available for download for Android or Apple devices.
- On the Carolina Ready home screen, select Support Resources and then Accessibility.
- Select Elevator Outage Notification and then Sign Up for Elevator Outage Push Notification.
- To ensure that these notifications are pushed to the home screen of your mobile device, you will need to enable push notifications for this app via your phone’s settings.
Note that these notifications are different from the Alert Carolina Emergency Notification System, which alerts campus to confirmed criminal activity, emergencies, adverse weather or other dangerous situations.
After the original outage notification is sent, any status updates will be available at the elevator outage dashboard at go.unc.edu/elevators. On this page you will also find information on how to report elevator outages. Be aware that outside normal working hours, elevator outage notifications and updates may be delayed.

UNC is partnering once again this year with NC State between November 19 – 26 for a friendly competition to see which school’s on-campus food pantry can raise the most gifts for students facing food insecurity. This challenge serves as on and off-the-field competitive momentum leading up to the Carolina versus NC State football game on Saturday, November 25.
The Carolina Cupboard, Carolina’s on-campus food pantry, aims to provide food assistance to individuals of the UNC community by acquiring and distributing food to those in need on campus. Participation in our challenge helps bridge the gap between students facing food insecurity and access to nutritious food.
We have seen tremendous success in our Pantry Bowl challenge over the past two years; however, we can't do it alone! We are looking to multiply our impact once again, and this time reclaim our title! Help us #beatPack and #tacklehunger in our Pantry Bowl challenge.
Want to know how you can help us kick start a successful Pantry Bowl? Follow these three easy steps:
- Plan ahead! Set a reminder on your calendar or phone to make your Pantry Bowl 2023 gift between November 19 and November 26.
-
Confirm your status as a champion! Follow the instructions in the link provided to see how you can go the extra mile this year in making an impact on students facing food insecurity.
-
Tell all your friends and family about The Pantry Bowl and the Carolina Cupboard. Use this social media toolkit to share our campaign.
Thank you for saving the date for our Pantry Bowl 2023 challenge! Follow along for updates and see our progress here.

HOPE North Carolina is working to create more inclusive housing options for people with disabilities in NC. As we work to find land and build this type of community from the ground up we are working to build community with people of all ages and abilities by holding social and educational events. Our next community gathering is Saturday November 18th from 12-1:30pm at Southern Community Park. We are always looking to expand our community with volunteers who are interested in developing friendships with people with neurodiversity. Email lauraw@hopenorthcarolina.org if you can help. Or just RSVP and attend on Nov. 18th!
Students wanting to learn about what inclusive housing is and how housing intersects with aging and disability should not miss this Nov. 13th event. It will feature 2 keynote speakers, Ann Turnbill, a long time educator and advocate for people with I/DD and also a national keynote by Rebecca Cokely. We are looking for a few volunteers to help us set up in the morning and help people register. Anyone who volunteers will get free admission to the summit which includes breakfast and lunch. Or just register and attend for the day or for a few hours (student scholarships are available). Contact lauraw@hopenorthcarolina if you can help.
