MPA Students Sponsor TABLE Food Drive | |
|
Our generous MPA students have organized a food drive to benefit TABLE this Thanksgiving, an organization that delivers healthy food and nutrition education to children in Orange County, NC. Here’s a bit more information about the drive, which runs through November 15. We hope you will consider making a contribution.
There are 3 collection bins located by the mailboxes, in the main lobby, and in the MPA wing.
We ask that anyone contributing to the food drive donates an equal amount of rice, beans, and canned vegetables so we don’t have excess items. These are the items we need to collect with the following dietary restrictions:
- 1 lb. bag of rice
- 1 lb. bag of beans (black beans are popular, but other kinds are also great! Our families have told us they prefer dried beans, but canned is also just fine)
- 14 oz. cans of vegetables (green beans, corn, etc. - take note of sodium)
- Box with individual snack bags (e.g. goldfish crackers, nuts, apple sauce, granola bars, etc. – take note of added sugar and sodium)
- Juice boxes (take note of added sugar)
- Oatmeal packets (take note of added sugar)
No more than 7g Added Sugar (this is not total sugar, just added sugar)
No more than 600mg of Sodium
No more than 4g Saturated Fat
NO GLASS CONTAINERS
These items will contribute to bags that will be delivered to children and their families for meal supplementation over Thanksgiving break.
Special thanks to MPA on-campus students Colby Mask and Ben King for heading up this initiative!

HOPE North Carolina is working to create more inclusive housing options for people with disabilities in NC. As we work to find land and build this type of community from the ground up we are working to build community with people of all ages and abilities by holding social and educational events. Our next community gathering is Saturday November 18th from 12-1:30pm at Southern Community Park. We are always looking to expand our community with volunteers who are interested in developing friendships with people with neurodiversity. Email lauraw@hopenorthcarolina.org if you can help. Or just RSVP and attend on Nov. 18th!
Students wanting to learn about what inclusive housing is and how housing intersects with aging and disability should not miss this Nov. 13th event. It will feature 2 keynote speakers, Ann Turnbill, a long time educator and advocate for people with I/DD and also a national keynote by Rebecca Cokely. We are looking for a few volunteers to help us set up in the morning and help people register. Anyone who volunteers will get free admission to the summit which includes breakfast and lunch.
