MPA on-campus format student Lauren Duncan recently penned a blog for the SOG community on economic development. Dr. Maureen Berner said, "I am really proud of her work....She not only had to do the research, write a paper, and subsequently write a blog, but it had to be vetted/approved by independent faculty/senior staff working on the blog that it could be backed by SOG quality standards and the organizations had to agree to be featured.

New Student Leadership Council Members Selected
The Student Leadership Councils (SLC) are a council of students that serve as the student’s voice to program administrators for the Carolina MPA program.
Both the on-campus and online format have their own body of SLC members. Students that serve on the SLC are expected to solicit feedback and information from their student peers to bring to the group and share with program administration. Congrats to the following students for being selected for their Student Leadership Councils:
-
Will Bulloss was selected to join the Online Student Leadership Council. Will is in his second term in the MPA Program and resides in Blacksburg, VA. He and all the Online SLC can be reached at mpaatunc_SLC@sog.unc.edu.
-
Reilly Stahl was elected by on-campus students to serve as a Graduate & Professional Student Government Senator, which also places Reilly on the on-campus SLC. Reilly is a first-year student from Franklin, NC.
-
James Hirsch was selected to represent the on-campus Class of 2024 on the MPA Alumni Council. All alumni council reps also serve on their respective SLCs. James is a first-year student from Kansas City, MO.
-
Chandler Briggs and Shane Digan were elected by the first-year on-campus students to be their At-large representatives for their SLC. Chandler is from Chapel Hill, NC and Shane joins us from Oneonta, NY.
All other SLC members are continuing on as well. You can find more about each of them on the MPA Intranet.

Climate Crisis Committee Looking for Assistance
My name is Jasmine Davidson, and I'm part of the Climate Crisis Committee of the Graduate Student Government.
We are currently looking for additional members to help research and advocate for clean energy alternatives to UNC's cogeneration plant, be it on or off campus. If you know any graduate or professional students who might be interested in this project, please have them email me at jdavids@unc.edu.
In addition to this, we also need more members for our Climate Action Day task force, organizing a daylong event to raise awareness, launch green initiatives around campus, and celebrate our progress. Interested students can email Jimmy Doegerl at jdoegerl@unc.edu.
Thank you for your help with spreading the word!
Sincerely,
Jasmine
