Durham Bulls Outing - RSVP by April 19!

Dear esteemed SOG Colleagues and Durham Bulls Enthusiasts,
While I might be new to the School of Government, my love for the Bulls extends well into my childhood. I am excited to work with John Stephens, long-time fan and Bulls liaison, for this year’s SOG Employees Durham Bulls outing.
This year, please join us on Tuesday, May 10th for a night at the ballpark. The game starts at 6:30. The Bulls play the Gwinnett Stripers of Georgia in what is sure to be a great game. This Atlanta Braves farm team had a 68-51 record last year, while the Bulls had a record of 86-44… enough said.
We have a reserved block of tickets. Employees, family members and their friends are welcome. Tickets are $13 each. Children are free, as long as they can sit in your lap! (and there are usually free seats nearby). The block of tickets is in Section 212, down the first base line.
As usual, Dean Mike Smith will lead us fearlessly into enjoyable libations and conversation.
Please let either of us know by April 19th how many tickets you would like. Once the tickets are purchased, we will approach you for payment (cash or check) and deliver your tickets.
We ask that once you buy the tickets, if you can no longer go, please offer them to a colleague and settle up as there are no refunds. We are more than happy to facilitate a night of great fun and understand scheduling can get a bit tricky.
Please reach out with any questions, and we look forward to growing our Bullpen!
Best,
Sarah Cline and John Stephens

Our friend and colleague, David Ammons, once again has been recognized by his national peers for a stellar career in the field of public administration. Recently, David received the Donald C. Stone Scholar Award. This award recognizes significant contributions to the study of intergovernmental affairs over a substantial period of time and is presented by the American Society for Public Administration’s Section on Intergovernmental Administration and Management. Over the course of David’s remarkable career, a substantial portion of his research on local government management has focused on benchmarking across governments in pursuit of performance improvement. The list of past recipients of the Stone Award is long and illustrious, and it includes our colleague Carl Stenberg and Deil Wright. The Stone Award is a fitting tribute to David. Join me in congratulating him for this wonderful recognition.

Background
The United States – and the world – face a range of seemingly intractable domestic and global challenges. Perhaps more than ever before, addressing interdependent problems requires collaboration across the public, nonprofit (philanthropic, education), and private sectors. Each sector has expertise, resources, and authority. Achieving cross-sector partnership requires practical insights on when, where, why, and how cross-sectoral action can be effective. This APPAM forum will explore opportunities for designing, implementing, and measuring the outcomes of cross-sector collaboration. We aim to foster communication among researchers who advance knowledge, funders who invest in solving problems, and policymakers and practitioners who apply knowledge and resources to improve the economic and social well-being of communities, the nation, and the world.
The panelists and participants will represent diverse group of individuals from across sectors and from scholarly, philanthropic, policy, and practice communities.
