Bureaucrats Ball is April 28

All MPA Students, Faculty & Staff are invited to the Annual Bureaucrats' Ball. Tickets are available for purchase at this link, through the SOG’s Learning Stream system. If you do not already, you will need to make a Learning Stream account in order to purchase tickets. Tickets are $25 for students and $30 for faculty/staff – a ticket for a ‘plus one’ may be additionally purchased. If cost poses a barrier to your attendance, please email elangefeld@sog.unc.edu and I can provide a code to comp your ticket.

Henderson wins the Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award


School of Government faculty member & MPA Alum Margaret Henderson received the esteemed 2023 Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award for engaged research at the 2023 UNC Public Service Awards, held by the Carolina Center for Public Service (CCPS).

Presented by Provost Christopher Clemens, Henderson accepted the award on April 11 at the Carolina Club, joining two other Provost Award winners. University Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz and CCPS Director Lynn Blanchard also presented five Robert E. Bryan Awards and one Ned Brooks Award for Public Service. Brown-Graham wins UNC GAA Faculty Service Award



MPA faculty member Anita Brown-Graham was recently honored with the 2023 UNC General Alumni Association Faculty Service Award. Established in 1990, this award honors faculty members who have performed outstanding service for the University or alumni association. The GAA has a humorous and insightful citation for the award, which can be found in the Carolina Alumni Review.

Stenberg Receives Legacy Award


Congratulations to MPA Faculty Member Carl Stenberg for receiving the Legacy Award from the American Society for Public Administration's Section on Intergovernmental Administration and Management (SIAM)! The Legacy Award honors those whose careers have centered on advancing the study and practice of federalism in multiple roles.


MPA Director Willow Jacobson states, "His work in intergovernmental relations leaves a lasting legacy to students, the field of public administration, and communities across North Carolina.” We have more details on the website.

Form of Government Graduate Student Symposium Call for Proposals

ICMA is calling for proposals for academic papers from Master’s and Ph.D. level students that explore the qualities and actions that demonstrate the strength of mayoral leadership within a council-manager form of government. Proposals are due by May 1, 2023, and should be no more than 750 words (excluding bibliography) to ecooper@icma.org. Further details are on the event's flyer.

 

Individuals whose proposals are selected will be notified by June 1, 2023.

• Accepted papers and presentations will be published online at icma.org.

• Authors/presenters will have the opportunity to present their research to ICMA members during the ICMA Annual Conference in Austin, Texas in October 2023. (ICMA will provide travel and lodging scholarships to accepted authors/presenters.)
