Groundwork: Student Gardening & Wellness Group

Looking for a way to reduce stress, build community, and get outside? The North Carolina Botanical Garden is starting a new free program focused on supporting student mental health, fostering connection, and growing fresh food together.

Each week, students will gather at the Edible Campus Main Garden (located directly behind Davis Library) for hands-on gardening, wellness-focused activities, and opportunities to take home fresh produce and plants. You’ll gain practical gardening skills while exploring supportive self-care practices, all in a welcoming, low-pressure space. This program is open to all UNC students.

Groundwork will be held weekly from September 2 to November 25. Participants may choose from two sessions: either Tuesdays from 2-3:15pm, or Wednesdays from 3:15-4:30pm. Sessions will be held at the Edible Campus Main Garden (behind Davis Library) in a wheelchair accessible garden. All tools and materials will be provided, with adaptive tools being available.

Spots are limited -- sign up for the interest list below to receive early access when registration opens later this summer! Questions? Contact Sarah Tanke (Interim Therapeutic Horticulture Program Manager) at tanke@unc.edu.
