NCCCMA UNC MPA Mix & Mingle
February 3, 2022
7:30 -8:00 AM
Gaines 1, Benton Convention Center
301 W. Fifth Street
Winston-Salem, NC 27101

In light of the surging Covid-19 positivity rates, rather than a sit-down seated breakfast, we are inviting alumni, students, faculty, and staff to gather for a drop-in “Mix and Mingle” during the NCCCMA Winter Seminar. We love the chance to bring folks together to meet and connect and did not want to miss this opportunity.

The event is free and you don't have to be registered for the Winter Seminar to attend. And while not the same as the traditional Alumni Breakfast, this masked setting still provides us with a chance to say "Hi," catch-up, and give you a little gift from the UNC MPA program. We will wrap up by 8:00 am to allow Seminar participants to go to the continental breakfast while still being timely for morning sessions.

To register, go HERE.

This "Mix and Mingle" is free of charge. If you are registering for the conference, please select "Bill Me" and you will have your invoice adjusted to remove the $20 fee post-conference. If you submit payment via credit card, you will be refunded the $20 for the traditional alumni breakfast post-conference.

It does take a few steps to register, if you have questions in the process, you can reach out to Brandon via email (foster@sog.unc.edu) or phone (919.903.6966).

Dear Carolina Community,
As we announced earlier this week, the University/Community MLK Memorial Banquet, featuring keynote speaker Elmira Mangum, Ph.D., originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, Jan. 16 was postponed due to inclement weather. That message erroneously noted that this was out of concern for travel. However, the event was prerecorded.
The decision to take the precautionary measure of postponing was in order to give everyone an equal opportunity to join during the celebration without risk of power outages and internet interruption that could potentially have occurred as a result of the weather.
We apologize for any confusion that the earlier message may have caused. However, we are delighted to announce that the virtual MLK Memorial Banquet has been rescheduled for Sunday, February 20 at 6 p.m. This will be the Sunday prior to the UNC MLK Lecture and Awards Ceremony that was rescheduled to take place Tuesday, February 22. Please check the official website for details and updates.
The Banquet Committee extends its sincerest thanks for your support.
Sincerely,
The University Office for Diversity and Inclusion

They also have consultants from a wide variety of different research backgrounds on staff. As their schedules permit, they are also available for one-on-one virtual consultations free of charge.
Free Statistical / Data Science Consulting
The UNC Department of Statistics and Operations Research announces the availability of free statistical / data science consulting. Our goal is to teach this important skill to graduate students, but you can get some free data analytic assistance in the process.
The course format involves clients giving a presentation about the problem at hand. This generates a question and answer dialog, which by itself has proven to be useful in helping clients formulate their ideas. Then typically one student is assigned to work on the actual data, with a final written report expected.
In the past we have worked with a very wide range of clients, from Masters students needing help with the statistical end of their dissertation, all the way up to distinguished professors. While there are limits to what can be done in the context of this course, some contacts initially made through this course have led to ongoing joint research, grant proposals and published papers in very diverse fields.
To sign up for this type of consulting, or to discuss this further, please contact Steve Marron, Department of Statistics and Operations Research, UNC, CB 3260, Email: marron@unc.edu. Additional information is available at the web address:
