KEEPING UP WITH UNITED WAY
June's Business Blitz Challenge |
For the month of June, United Way of Hernando County and their Community Challengers at Spring Hill MRI, challenged Hernando businesses to join their efforts in mobilizing resources for local unmet needs by “Accepting the Challenge”. Thanks to the generous contributions from local businesses, United Way surpassed their goal, including a $5,000 match from Challengers at Spring Hill MRI, with a total raised of $12,250!
Accepting the Challenge is so much more than a donation. These businesses know what it takes to prosper and want every individual and family to have access to the care and resources they need. When you are in need of a local service and in search of a reliable company, consider referring to United Way’s Preferred Partners list. Preferred Partners recognize the value in giving to United Way and know that their donation will be hard at work, helping make a difference through Health, Education, Financial Stability, & Basic Needs/Crisis Prevention services in Hernando County.

Publix: #PartnersInProgress |
Thank You to our amazing partners, advocates, friends, and Global Corporate Leaders at our local Publix stores. We had the privilege to educate the 2024 Campaign Coordinators with all the resources and tools they need for a successful year.
Their support not only helps local residents but also strengthens United Way's mission to bridge gaps in services. At United Way, we are proud to live our mission every day. During the month of October, United Way of Hernando County will be hosting their 5th Annual “Give Thanks, Give Food” drive. This county-wide effort will benefit five local food pantries and shelters in Hernando County: Dawn Center’s Domestic Violence Shelter, St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry, People Helping People’s Weekend Blessings program, Youth & Family Alternative’s New Beginning’s Youth Shelter, and Mid Florida Homeless Coalition’s outreach efforts.
The non-perishable food donations collected will be sorted, packed, and distributed to the agencies as part of United Way’s month-long “5 Days of Caring” in November.
United Way invites all Community Partners and Local Organizations to help make a meaningful impact this October by becoming a collection site! By opening your doors to collect non-perishable food items, you'll be playing a vital role in ensuring that individuals in our community have food during the holiday season.

Proactive Partnerships & Disaster Preparedne |
As the coast braced for Hurricane Debby, Hernando partners prepared for response efforts. With Hernando County Emergency Management releasing a new Damage Self-Assessment tool,
residents were easily able to report storm damages, upload pictures, and communicate needs. This allowed our United Way and COAD partners to quickly assess and assist unmet needs for Hernando residents.
In addition to, United Way helped mobilize the delivery of 100 American Red Cross muck buckets for clean up and preparation for river flooding.

If you work closely with any non-profit agency, you may notice a common trend when it comes making it their mission to educate. Educate clients on how to qualify for their services. Educate residents on where their generous donations go. And educate communities at large who they are as an organization and their purpose. While navigating this outreach effort to educate, our dedicated teams are often faced with busting myths. “I thought you did this?” We’re here to set the record straight through our UNITED WAY MYTH BUSTERS SERIES. Each month we will feature select United Way Partner Programs, highlighting their common “myths” and how you can help be an advocate to educate.
The purpose of a Long-Term Recovery Group is to have a designated, centralized, coordinating group of partnering organizations/businesses whose common goal is to assist the impacted individuals and families in the community with their Long-Term Recovery Efforts.

Stress Management
Stress is a fact of life. Overbooked schedules, demanding work hours, long commutes, an outburst by an angry boss, a stand-off with a defiant teenage child and the bad news that makes headlines every day are all contributors to the increased stress that many feel. Now more than ever it is important to recognize signs of stress in ourselves, our families and our communities and take the necessary steps to reduce stress and intervene if needed.

What is United Way of Hernando and who do they help?
-
UWHC was established as a 501c3 organization in 1987 and since then, has continuously focused on creating partnerships to further assist our community in seeking sustainable solutions for our most pressing needs. Our support for long-term commitments and bridging the gaps for social services are essential when addressing key social issues our community faces. United Way allocates the dollars our donors invest each year to direct services committed to tackling the underlying cause of complex issues through HEALTH, EDUCATION, & FINANCIAL STABILITY, with a heavy focus on crisis prevention and mental health. We find every dollar we can to address these issues and collaborate with businesses, organizations, and leaders who share a vision of improving lives through the power of working together for true change. Click here for our localized "UNITED WE WIN" video.
Who operates United Way of Hernando County?
- A small professional team of 4 staff the UWHC who carry out day-to-day operations. This passionate team provides support to all volunteers, Partner Agencies, residents, and corporate partners. They plan and organize all departments including annual fundraising efforts, community outreach events, and manage in-house initiative programs. UWHC is governed by a dedicated team of Board of Directors, made up of a diverse group of volunteers nominated and selected to serve our community. The Board, along with UWHC's Executive Director/CEO, approve all activities, internal policies and oversee the financial aspects of the organization.

What is United Way of Hernando County's overhead and administration costs?
