U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $800,000 in American Rescue Plan Funds to Support Training and Development of Tribal Entrepreneurs in New Mexico |

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding an $800,000 grant to UNM Rainforest Innovations, Albuquerque, New Mexico, to assess and support training programs for tribal entrepreneurs.
This grant is funded by the American Rescue Plan. This grant will identify gaps and barriers for tribal entrepreneurship and seek solutions to those barriers. The EDA investment will be matched with $200,000 in local funds.
“The University of New Mexico’s Rainforest Innovations is a great launchpad for Tribal entrepreneurs looking to start their own businesses,” said Senator Martin Heinrich. “I’m proud to welcome these investments from the American Rescue Plan that will open up opportunities for Tribal economies and careers.”

Learn sales tips and strategies for your small business from marketing and networking guru, Stacy Sacco.
For the past 20 years, Mr. Stacy Sacco has taught entrepreneurial studies at the UNM Anderson School of Management, and served as the Director of the UNM Small Business Institute.
Stacy previously held senior marketing management positions at several Fortune 500 companies in Orange County, Calif., for over 20 years, and locally, at the CNM Workforce Training Center, Kirtland Federal Credit Union and the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. Stacy holds an MBA from Pepperdine University, a bachelor’s in marketing from the University of Arizona, and toured two years with the global leadership program Up With People.
He currently is the President of Sacco Connections, a management consulting firm, and hosts a free, informational website, with 3,000+ links to local jobs, events and resources.

A brand can become the most valuable asset a business owns. Tragically, many businesses fail to research and protect the brands they build, often rendering them worthless or even damaging.
Seth Gardenswartz, Partner, Blackgarden Law, will present the basics of brand value and strategy to help creatives and businesses build strong and lasting IP assets. We will outline a practical approach to selecting brand elements and provide a framework for the enforcement of brand rights and how to respond to cease and desist letters. The program will be a useful guide, full of local and national examples that participants can use every day to create value for themselves and their clients.

Thirty-minute start-up “boot camp” session with UNM-Valencia mentor Susan Cornelius that will help take you and your business ideas to the next level. After the boot camp session, there will be an opportunity for a 30 minute mentoring session with Susan via Zoom. Registration for your individual mentoring appointment must be made prior to the event. Zoom details will be sent after your register.
Susan Cornelius is the Principal of Accelerate2Solutions, an innovative, small, high tech company focused on creating successful, lean start-ups. Susan has coached more than 71 companies, and created seven start-up companies, ranging from $500M to $150,000, helping them emerge as successful high tech, and life and health sciences companies.
Virtual mentoring will take place separately and individually after the initial 30-minute boot camp session.

Ms. Lee is the Executive Director of the Southwest Native Assets Coalition (SNAC). Prior to joining SNAC she worked in the commercial banking and financing services industry providing credit analysis, financial education as well as small dollar loan origination and servicing throughout western New Mexico.

SCORE has been helping small businesses start and grow in the Albuquerque area for over 50 years through mentoring and workshops and seminars. SCORE is the largest National resource partner of the Small Business Administration (SBA) with about 11,000 SCORE volunteers sharing their time and talents to help America's small businesses.
