Dering-Anderson named APhA Fellow
Dering-Anderson The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) announced Dr. Ally Dering-Anderson, Clinical Assistant Professor, department of Pharmacy Practice, as a 2017 APhA Fellow.

Fellows are either members of the APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management or the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science with a minimum of ten years professional experience.  To become a Fellow, members must have demonstrated exemplary professional achievements and service to the professions through activities with APhA and other national, state or local professional organizations.

Dr. Dering-Anderson will be officially recognized at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco, March 24-27, 2017.  Congratulations, Ally!
Compound may offer new deterrent to mosquitoes
Mosquitoes buzz, bite, suck our blood, make us itch and worst of all spread serious, even deadly diseases, like chikungunya, dengue, malaria, yellow fever and Zika.
And if that isn't enough?

"A lot of people don't realize that mosquitoes have kidneys, and when they take a blood meal from you they also urinate on you almost simultaneously," Jerod Denton, Ph.D., of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told NIH Research Matters.   Read more.  
Distinguished Scientist Rongshi Li, Ph.D.
Dr. Rongshi Li, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been named one of ten Distinguished Scientists on the UNMC campus.

The Distinguished Scientist Award -- which is sponsored by the chancellor -- recognizes researchers who have been among the most productive scientists in the country during the past five years.  Read more
New Investigator Kim Scarsi, Pharm.D.
Kim Scarsi, Pharm.D., Associate Professor, department of Pharmacy Practice, has been named New Investigator on the UNMC campus.
 
New Investigator Awards go to outstanding UNMC scientists who in the past two years have secured their first funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense or other national sources. New Investigators also had to demonstrate scholarly activity such as publishing their research and/or presenting their findings at national conventions.  Read more
New Investigator Martin Conda Sheridan, Ph.D.
Martin Conda-Sheridan, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been named New Investigator on the UNMC campus.

Klepser receives Executive Board Medal Award
Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) awarded Don Klepser, Associate Professor and Vice Chair, department of Pharmacy Practice, with the Executive Board Medal Award at the MPA Annual Convention & Exposition February 24-26, 2017 in Detroit, MI.

The Executive Board Medal Award is given annually to an individual who has demonstrated an extraordinary personal commitment to MPA.  It is only one of two awards that may be given to a non-pharmacist by the Association.  The award was developed to recognize individuals who have been instrumental to the MPA Executive Board and to the Association in advancing pharmacy's agenda.

NPA Member Spotlight
Judy Neville, CPhT, was featured in the March issue of the Nebraska Pharmacists Association (NPA) Member Spotlight.

Judy is the UNMC College of Pharmacy Pharmacy Technician Director.  She is an accomplished author of three pharmacy technician textbooks. As an active advocate for pharmacy technicians, Judy is the President of the American Association of Pharmacy Technicians (AAPT).  Read more.
College Rankings by NIH funding
The NIH rankings for 2016 were released.  The UNMC College of Pharmacy ranked sixth in the country out of 130 schools in the nation.  Our former ranking for 2015 was twelfth.  View video.
