LiveGreen: Project reduced energy use
An energy optimization project reduced energy use by 3.7 million KBtus and saved more than $103,000 in just the first year. The facilities department expects energy savings to continue and cost avoidance to increase as well. The emissions impact from this reduction in energy use is equivalent to removing 167 passenger vehicles from the road for one year. Read more.

Mead Investigation Team Community Survey
In response to the AltEn environmental situation in Mead, NE, a team from UNMC and UNL is planning to implement a survey within the community and the surrounding area. We are looking for volunteers to administer the survey over the course of two days, the weekend of July 17th and 18th.
Volunteers should be CITI trained, or complete CITI training prior to the implementation of the survey. (CITI training is free for all UNMC students!) Survey training will be provided to volunteers on July 17. Those that participate will be reimbursed for gas. Last day to sign up is July 15th!

The 2021 Technology Transfer Boot Camp is scheduled to return as an in-person event on Aug. 16-20. Tech Transfer Boot Camp aims at scientists and students interested in what it takes to commercialize a new invention or discovery. Read more and apply.

See Us, Hear Us: A UNMC Spoken Word Event
Register to share your poetry, prose, or song on Thursday, September 9 at the UNMC Ice Rink. Each participant will have 10 minutes maximum to perform. Times will be assigned in order that the sign up is received with the first presentation at approximately 4:40.

Summer Passport Program with Student Senate
Take this summer to explore Nebraska with the Nebraska Passport Program! To encourage students to get out and enjoy the state, Student Senate will be offering prizes for participating. The student who acquires the most stamps will be given a $75 gift card; second and third place will be given $50 and $25 gift cards, respectively.
Passports can be requested here. Stamps can be collected May 1st to September 30th. The number of stamps you received must be submitted to Student Senate by October 6th. We will verify the number with the tourism board. Stamps can also be collected through the tourism board app if you don't feel comfortable going into a location for a physical stamp.

Volunteer Initiatives
MUNA Box: A group led by UNMC students providing support to refugee and immigrant population by providing staple foods, education, and translation of COVID materials.
Support your NEighbor COVID-19: A group that focuses on providing support to high-risk community members, especially the elderly. Activities include picking up groceries, picking up medicine, and providing virtual companionship.
NorthStar Foundation: NorthStar is an all-boys after-school program in Omaha serving grades 3-12 during the school year, and grades 3-9 during Camp NorthStar Summer School. NorthStar has volunteer opportunities for UNMC faculty, staff and students for high school tutoring. Learn more and sign up here.
