This newsletter is designed to assist high school seniors in the preparation for the transition to college as a part of the University of North Texas Senior Year Experience. Through this program, you will have access to free workshops, events, and services that will assist you in your college preparation.

Applications for Fall 2026 will open July 1, 2025 on via Apply Texas.


The Common Application opens August 1, 2025.


If you apply for admission before March 1, 2026, you are automatically considered for a merit scholarship.

Rec Letter Etiquette

When asking for letters of recommendation for admission applications, a program, internship or job here are some guidelines to secure quality recommendations.


  • Choose Recommenders Carefully and Strategically
  • Choose people who will give you positive recommendations
  • Request a Letter Formally
  • Ask in person when possible and/or send an email asking for a recommendation
  • Provide all Relevant Information
  • Include information about the school/program/scholarship you are applying and provide your resume. Let your recommenders know what format you need (letter, form, survey, etc.) and how it should be sent
  • Be Polite and Respectful of Recommenders Time
  • Ask 2 months before the deadline, if possible, to ensure they have enough time
  • Follow Up
  • Send a reminder, a thank you note, and an update on your application

June: Brainstorm and Get Inspired

While UNT doesn't require an essay as a part of your initial admissions application, you may need to write essays, personal statements, or even answer questions for scholarship opportunities.
