This week's highlight: IUOE Local 158
Founded in 2011 following a merger of three separate local unions, Local 158 currently represents more than 4,000 heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and stationary engineers in New York State’s public and private sectors. The three districts represent the territories of each of the original local unions – Local 106, Local 545, and Local 832 – and each office is fully staffed to service the needs of their members. They are now one local union, but maintaining these district boundaries preserves the pride and allegiance which is so important to long-time members and retirees.

Scheduled for a late-summer or early fall christening, the five-story, 2.6-million-square-foot facility at 2600 Manitou Rd. looks nearly finished from the outside, including paving and landscaping. But completion of work inside the building is being held up by supply chain delays, Gates Town Supervisor Cosmo Giunta said after speaking the project contractor.
Gov. Kathy Hochul is in Fairport Friday. Her team says she will make an economic development announcement.
A new regional cancer center will be opening on July 11. UR Medicine's Wilmot Cancer Institute will open its 14th cancer center on Hard Road, in Webster. The facility held a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate its opening, on Thursday.

The $227 million UR Medicine Center for Orthopaedics and Physical Performance at The Marketplace Mall — the biggest offsite project in the University of Rochester’s history — is on track to open for surgeries at year’s end and will offer clinical services for patients there in the fall of 2023.
The City of Rochester is celebrating the completion of another project as part of the Roc the Riverway initiative. The first phase, West River Wall Project, is now complete.
The public is getting its first look at what the new $1.4 billion Buffalo Bills stadium site could look like and specifics on where it will be located. A specific design of the new facility was not part of Friday’s announcement by Erie County, but documents released show how 283.42 acres of land will be used for the new home for the team, which is expected to open in 2026.

VisualDx recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of its new headquarters in Rochester’s Village Gate community. The celebration included speeches from local officials, an open house and tours of the new office space, as well as light refreshments and networking opportunities with the company’s employees, partners and special guests from the Rochester business community.
The Diplomat Banquet Center, the last of Rochester's spacious party houses, will be repurposed over the next year as a headquarters for local unions. "The Diplomat became available to us and it fits our needs perfectly," said Dan DiClemente, the president of local Council 66 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, or AFSCME.
