Dear UP Partners and Supporters,
UP is proud to share our mid-year Impact UPdate with you. The report offers examples of our work with partner schools, districts, and youth-adult teams through the lens of recently completed research supported through a joint learning agreement with the Kettering Foundation.
The Kettering Foundation supports cooperative research focused on the primary research question, what does it take to make democracy work as it should? Kettering’s research is conducted from the perspective of citizens and focuses on what people can do collectively to address problems affecting their lives, their communities, and their nation. The Foundation's support enabled UP to study the tension and energy that occur when youth and adults sit side by side as equal partners, sharing power, voice and responsibility for systemic change and transformation of education systems. The research explored the impact on youth and adults, and the overall sustainability of the democratic process, when youth are co-designers and co-implementers of community change projects.
As our country faces more threats to democracy, UP guides youth and adults in using participatory action research to better understand their own community and its needs. UP’s work helps to create the time and space, collaboration, and understanding needed for change.
Every day our partners inspire us, and, through the Impact UPdate and the Companion Video, we hope to pass that appreciation along to you. Thank you for your support of UP for Learning.
With gratitude,
Lindsey

P.S. In two weeks we will share out the full report from the Kettering research and the video library of stories from each of the communities!
