UP's 2025 Impact UPdate

At the mid-year point, UP’s Impact UPdate highlights the variety of UP projects and partners. From the UPdate, UP hopes you will see how the benefits of work with youth and youth-adult teams ripples out resulting in systemic change at the local, regional, and even national level. Our survey data shows youth engaging with UP feel empowered to make change in their own lives and in their communities, and this report gives a snapshot of our process and impact.

UP continues to widen and deepen our networks and fully engage youth and adults in reimagining and transforming education. UP for Learning’s lasting impact on a school community is creating a sustainable culture where youth and adults share power, voice and responsibility resulting in increased equity and experience with democratic practices at work. The uncertainty around education and education funding poses a unique challenge and opportunity for UP for Learning as we fully commit to finding funding to work with any school or district looking to improve their culture and community. We also commit to fulfilling our mission to seek equity and justice by providing opportunities for open dialogue, increased understanding based on local data collection, and supporting youth to learn more about issues concerning their future.

Every day youth and our partners inspire us, and we want to pass that appreciation along to you. Thank you for your support of UP for Learning.

U-32 Prepares for Town Meeting

"Simple presentations and connections between the students and the leaders in their schools have a big impact on school life and communities."

By Elise O’Brien, UP Youth Intern

Every year, the U-32 school board has to make a decision on budget cuts for the district. These decisions have been largely made by adults in their district, until this year. The U-32 Student Council aimed to change that by bringing student voice into the budget process and form a stronger bond with their school board.

This is their third year as an established Student Council, which was a student led initiative from the Changemakers Class at U-32. Every year, up to three people in each grade are elected onto the council for one year, with both a middle and high school staff advisor. While on the council, they work together on projects to improve life in the school and community.

Annual Appeal Update

Thanks to our many donors and collaborators, UP succeeded in meeting its challenge goal by increasing donation by more than 25%! We have not yet meet our financial goals for the Annual Appeal. Donations all UP to maintain its commitment to work with all interested schools, regardless of their ability to pay, while responsibly managing the addition of new programs, of more youth interns, and of budgetary impacts of inflation.
