(Argaille A. Di Matteo 12/1/20)
Welcome, December! We’re glad that you’re here!
For, when you arrive, we know Winter is near.
Still, there are mild days for dining outdoors,
Though we all wear masks as we go out to stores.
Though Autumn leaves have fallen and there’s brisk, “chill” weather,
One still hears the chant “We’re in this together.”
“We’re in this together” sets a new stage,
As through this pandemic, we turn a new page
In steadfast unity, toward all that is true.
Dear, Welcome December, we’re glad that there’s You!
In times of uncertainty and seeming confusion,
Your 31 days bring refreshing infusion
Of Hope, Love and Waiting in times that seem “wild,”
To welcome anew the sweet Birth of a Child,
Who came forth in uncertainty a long time ago,
When fear and confusion dealt that world a blow.
Born in a stable (a crude, humble thing),
This humble Child had a new song to sing.
He grew like we all did, from toddler to adult.
But this Child was different, He confronted the tumult.
With messages of Peace, Love and Care for each other,
This Carpenter’s Son said we’re sisters and brothers.
With time and disciples, his followers grew,
Till now, in December, He touches us too.
“We’re in this together,” He preached long ago.
You, Welcome December, with your Christmas Flow
Are teaching us waiting, as does fallow Earth,
When trees, bushes, fields, draw down for new birth;
When birds and all creatures burrow in to their nests,
As wind, snow, and cold put us all to the test;
When Dear Old, Sweet Santa comes laden with toys
For all the World’s children, good girls and good boys.
Let us now remember the pure, simple Birth
Of God’s Son, Who helped us remember our worth
As “essential workers” In God’s Divine Plan.
We’re in this together. Let’s go hand in hand.
Let’s open our hearts, souls, minds, bodies anew
To welcome the Christ Child, Who’s “just passing through”
Again to remind us of Whose we ALL are,
As we are led in December by His Christmas Star!
