Friends, it is dangerously cold. Please take care of yourselves and those around you. Have a safety kit in your car. Click here for more info. Stay home when you can. Check on your friends and neighbors.
Due to the life threatening temperatures, we will be putting together hygiene kits and bedrolls for Loaves and Fishes after worship tomorrow. Click here for more info about this ministry. We will have much more information soon about how we can help our unhoused neighbors survive this vicious weather.
Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and many celebrations and remembrances are adjusting to the inclement weather. The church office will be closed on Monday. We will also celebrate the cause of justice in worship tomorrow.
In preparation for worship, I encourage you to read and to pray about Psalm 139:1-18. The psalmist recognizes the Creator's deeply intimate relationship with creation. How does this make you feel? What is unnerving? What is comforting? Ponder what it means that the Creator knows us better than we know ourselves and loves us unconditionally.
Then, read and pray about 1 Samuel 3:1-18. (For some context go back and read 1 Samuel 2). Samuel's mother Hannah didn't think she would ever have a child. She was so thankful when she conceived that she dedicated her child to God. She took her son Samuel to the temple to be raised by the priest Eli and to serve the Lord. 1 Samuel 3 is a crazy story about God's speaking to Samuel and how he and Eli reacted. Think and pray about how you & we might hear God's calling. Is it loud? Is it quiet? How do we know it's God? How do you and we respond? What might happen if you/we answer, "Here I am, Lord."?
