Wants You!
Choir Retreat August 24-25
If you have ever sung in a choir, our wonderful choir family wants you, and needs you, to join them in leading our congregation’s song each week. Our Chancel Choir is an excellent choir, but our numbers need a bit of replenishing to continue to offer what is expected of us on Sunday mornings.

A frequent answer choir members get when friends are asked to join them is, “I’m not good enough to sing in the choir with you; you’re so good!” The truth is that, like in most choirs, the total sound that is heard is far more than the sum of individual voices. There is a palpable musical synergy that comes from many different voices joining together in common purpose.

The Chancel Choir’s annual Fall Retreat is almost here. The choir will gather once again at our Seminary’s lovely facility on Friday evening, August 24, and for much of the day on Saturday, August 25, to start singing the music to be offered this fall. Then we robe and gather for Rally Sunday, August 26, to lead our congregation in its song for this fall’s first regular worship service.

Come, join the joy. Speak to any choir member about details. Or call Ara Carapetyan at 512-795-8699 and tell him you’re ready to join this special group of UPC servant leaders.
Presbyterian Young Adults Meet August 16
Pinthouse Burnet, 6:00 p.m.
You are invited to an event for Presbyterian Young Adults that are in Austin. We have teamed up with Westminster Pres, Central Pres, and First Pres, along with other Presbyterian churches in the area so that we can get together as many young adults to fellowship with one another. Come with your ideas of what you need from a group of like-minded peers!
We hope to make this a monthly meet-up, so come on Thursday, August 16 at 6:00 p.m. at Pinthouse Pizza on Burnet Road, and let’s see what this could be! Let me know if you have questions at ukirk @upcaustin.org .
Let us know if you can make it: facebook.com/events/1805645329561981/

Last Chance!
Lost & Found
Many, many thanks to those UPC heroes who came out last Saturday for the Clean & Shiny work day! Everything sparkles, and (almost) everything is organized.

One area that still needs attention is our Lost & Found storage in the church office. In the last year, we've accumulated quite a collection of shirts, shoes, umbrellas, dishes (don't ask;-) water bottles, and other items. You'll find them on a table outside the church office until Tuesday, August 21.
Among the treasures is a small gold bracelet and one stud earring. Email a description of either item to Jan at upc@upcaustin.org . If it matches, it's yours!

Stop by any time and simply take what's yours. After August 21, they'll find good homes not at UPC. (Well, perhaps we'll hold on to the umbrellas ;-)
UPLift Needs Next Week
Every Tuesday morning, UPC volunteers provide some food and coffee, hygiene items, and occasional financial assistance for our clients. While all donations are welcome at any time, here are some items to consider bringing to worship this week.

Financial gifts which are used for providing work-boots, eyeglasses, and rental or utilities assistance are always appreciated!
For this week's grocery cart
  • Large box raisins (for oatmeal)
  • Large bag white rice
  • Large jar peanut butter (not organic)
  • Large jar preserves or jelly
  • Breakfast bars

Thank you for your incredible support of this UPC mission!!

Celebrations & Concerns
Please pray for

Norma , sister-in-law to Rosca Toulouse. Her surgery on August 10 had serious complications and lasted 12 hours. She is on a heart-lung machine until her heart has rested and healed. If things go as well as possible, this will still be a slow recovery. The family is grateful for continued prayers.

Gretchen Stone , who leaves for Viet Nam August 18, taking with her all the soft toys, puzzles, and manipulables that many of you helped create earlier this summer.

The Reh family , refugees relocated to Austin, as they settle in to their new life.
To request prayers for yourself or a loved one, email   upc@upcaustin.org .
To have a deacon pray with you, look for the  Deacon of the Day  on the pulpit side front of the sanctuary any Sunday following the postlude.
If you'd like to be part of UPC's Prayer Chain, please   email the church office . You will receive emails asking that you pray specifically for people who have requested to be on the prayer list.
