Come Sing in Summer Choir!
Summer Choir Singers are any singers who wish to sing in the choir on any Summer Sunday morning they choose. If you'd like to sing this summer, come to the Chancel promptly at 10:00 a.m. and rehearse the morning’s anthem. Summer singers wear no robes, sing the anthem, then join family and/or friends in the congregation for the remainder of the service. All singers are welcome!

This Sunday: " Jubilate in B flat," by Charles Villiers Stanford. The Text is Psalm 100, KJV and the familiar Gloria Patri.
The Creation
Detail from the mural created by UPC Youth during the Great Vigil of Easter, March 31, 2018.

Starting this Sunday, June 17, we’ll be preaching and worshiping through the stories of the Easter Vigil, all summer long. In the spirit of the Vigil, however, this won’t simply be a sermon series. It’s a chance to incorporate the creative elements of the Vigil in as many ways as possible. Come worship with us!

Summer Sermon Series
God's Promises Unfolding
One of the most unusual and vivid worship services of the year at University Presbyterian Church is the Saturday Easter Vigil, a service that spans multiple locations, multiple generations, and includes all of the creative energy we can muster.

Central to that service is the recitation of a series of stories from the Old Testament, stories of God’s promises unfolding across generations, stories that anticipate the glory of Easter morning — and, this summer at UPC, we’re going to preach through those stories.
Starting on June 17, we’ll be preaching and worshiping through the stories of the Easter Vigil, all summer long. In the spirit of the Vigil, however, this won’t simply be a sermon series. It’s a chance to incorporate the creative elements of the Vigil in as many ways as possible. Whenever we can, we’ll be using the musical elements of the Vigil service in our Sunday mornings; in addition, we’re taking the massive cloth mural that the UPC Youth created live during this past Vigil service and bringing that artwork, story by story, into your Sunday bulletin. This will, in turn, make the bulletin feel a little different for the summer, part of a season of play and wonder as we celebrate again the unfolding of God’s promises. Come, join us!
VBS Volunteer Training This Sunday!
June 17, 2018
12:15 p.m. Youth Room
Youth and adult volunteers who plan to help with VBS the week of June 25 through 29, please come to a brief training session in the Youth Room after worship this Sunday. You’ll meet with VBS Director Meghan Swartz , hear all about what the week will look like, and see what assignments are available.

VBS volunteering begins Monday, June 25, at 8:30 a.m., and concludes Friday, June 29, with a lunch and surprise activities. We are looking for adult and youth volunteers (6th grade and up) to help us out that week, and also Saturday, June 23 to prepare.
If you’ve been thinking about signing up but haven’t yet, please come anyway.

The meeting will last no more than 45 minutes. Get ready to ride the rapids with UPC children and leaders!

Never helped with VBS before? No worries! Our team will make sure you're fully prepared so you can don your life jacket before the first kiddo arrives.

Questions? Please email our summer programs director Adrielle Chew at summerprograms@upcaustin.org . Thanks!
Refugee Welcome Team Update & Request
The Welcome Team gets many inquiries about how our refugee family is doing. We are so grateful for your interest in the family. The parents opted not to put the children in school until fall, so the family will enroll in iACT ESL classes this summer held at Central Presbyterian Church. The children have a long summer ahead.

The Welcome Team would like to provide the children with some bicycles or scooters, some games that require little or no reading skill (checkers, chess, Parcheesi, four in a row), and a soccer ball. Girls are ages 8, 10 and 16, the boy age 13. We are asking for second hand donations (we have funds to purchase items if needed).
You can bring your games and small items to the UPC office. If you would like to donate a bicycle, please email Robin Dennis at robincrabtreedennis@gmail.com .

Many thanks to Welcome Team members who have driven the family to ten appointments over the last month and provided a meal (using your donations) to twenty-two refugees attending a Cultural Orientation session at Refugee Service of Texas. The team is busy behind the scenes brainstorming ways to help our family succeed.

Summer Fellowship
Sundays @ 9:30 a.m.
The Faith & Life and Parenting & Faith classes invite you to gather informally in Fellowship Hall for coffee and conversation any Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Regular Sunday morning classes will resume September 2, 2018.
The Present Word
Room 3, Lower Level
Sundays @ 9:30 a.m.

The Present Word Class will continue to meet every Sunday through June and July. Our background material is provided by the curriculum that gives the class its name. By using the provided scripture readings, we ensure that we are engaging with the whole Bible over time. Our summer quarter topic is "Justice in the New Testament." However, this is not a Bible study class. The scriptures and weekly lessons are our starting point for lively discussions that include the week's events, current issues and our own Christian journeys. This topic seems especially relevant in this heated political climate. The class is led by Roscoe Overton. We would love to have you come learn, share and pray with us.
For this week's grocery cart
  • Large jar peanut butter (not organic)
  • Large jar preserves or jelly
  • 10 lb box oatmeal (not instant)
  • Large box raisins
  • Breakfast bars
Thank you for your incredible support of this UPC mission!!
2019 USA Mission Experience to Finger Lakes Region, New York
Standing on the shoulders of empowered women

A group of Presbyterian women will travel to the Finger Lakes Region of New York, July 12–22, 2019, for PW’s fifth USA Mission Experience . They will explore the rich history that Presbyterian women have in the women’s and civil rights movements. These women will also have the opportunity to learn more about themselves and about the people of the Finger Lakes Region, including migrant workers and Native Americans. Highlights of the journey will include a day in Seneca Falls at the Women’s Convention at the National Women’s Hall of Fame; a visit to the Susan B. Anthony home; and a visit to the Harriet Tubman House.

The USA Mission Experience equips women with an understanding of the region’s history and culture, the existing ministry of the church there and the challenges faced by women and children living in the area. Participants serve as ambassadors for the region during two years of itineration following the experience.

Apply now to join the 2019 USA Mission Experience to the Finger Lakes Region . Applications and reference forms must be submitted to PW in the Synod moderators by August 15, 2018.
