Upcoming OC Board of Supervisors Meeting on August 11th: Continued Agenda Item Regarding Three New Leases for Dana Point Harbor

Dear Dana Point Boater,

As boaters are aware, over the last 8 years slip prices in Dana Point Marina have, in most cases, more than doubled, and additional increases are anticipated. The current lease agreement for the marina has no clear guidelines on how prices are to be set.

At the next Orange County Board of Supervisors' Board meeting, August 11, 2026, the Board will consider three new 66-year leases for Dana Point Harbor. Supervisor Foley has made a motion to make the approval contingent on including language in the Master Lease for the marina/commercial core that will require guidelines on slip rate increases, so as to avoid arbitrary and sometimes unreasonable slip fee increases that are driving small boat owners out of the County-owned marina.

As these new leases add, in effect, an additional 8 years onto the previously agreed 66-year lease terms of Tidelands Public Trust property, providing some assurance of fair slip fee rates would seem to be the minimum that should be required of the marina operators.

We urge you to email or write the supervisors, as well as the City Council of the City of Dana Point, in support of the proposed language requiring the guidelines on slip price increases.

You can include in your correspondence language such as:

“Regarding the OC Board of Supervisors’ consideration of the new 66-year Master Leases on August 11, 2026, for the Dana Point Harbor, I write in support of Supervisor Foley’s proposed language that would amend Section 11.9 of the Marina Lease to provide clear, enforceable guidelines for slip rate increases for boaters. The burdensome increases of the last 8 years, and the pain, dissension, and acrimony that accompanied those increases, should end.”

Links to the Supervisors and the City Council are listed below, along with this LINK to email them directly using the suggested language.

Thank you
