The Office of the Attorney General released the
Use of Force Incident Reporting 2018
on July 1. The data contained in this report only represents incidents where use of force resulted in serious bodily injury or death, or the discharge of a firearm.
Here are a few highlights from the report:
- For the third year in a row, incidents (628) are down, 12% year over year, 20% since 2016.
- 677 civilians were involved in the incidents.
- Race of these suspects were 47% Hispanic, 29% White, and 19% Black.
- Age range of these suspects were 6% 18-20, 37% 21-30, 30% 31-40, 13% 41-50, and 7% 51-60.
- Outside of Los Angeles County, San Diego and San Bernardino Counties had the most officers involved in use of force with 150 and 130, respectively.
