As we’ve previously shared, demolition of the Ann Street parking structure began Wednesday. Due to the disruptive demolition work, our building at 161 William Street, will remain closed now through the end of the Spring 2023 semester.
Our building at 161 William Street shares a wall with the former parking structure on Ann Street. This wall requires repair work. This work involves continuous disruptive noise, vibration, and physical obstructions, which will make learning and working in 161 William Street challenging for our community.
Here’s what you need to know as members of the Pace Community:
FACULTY AND STAFF

161 William will stay closed through the end of the Spring 2023 term. There will be no access to this building.

Classes scheduled in 161 William will be relocated. Academic Scheduling will be reaching out to faculty directly later today.

Offices may not be used. Please contact your department chair or supervisor regarding alternate work space locations or remote work arrangements.

If you must retrieve critical personal belongings from 161 William during the closure, please complete this Qualtrics form. The Office of Safety and Security will be reviewing requests and escorting you inside the building if your request is able to be accommodated.
STUDENTS

As previously communicated, 33 Beekman is safe, however five residential rooms on the south facade of the third floor and the rooms below have been taken off-line for minor facade work as an extra precaution during the parking garage demolition.

The Provost’s Office is working directly with the Academic Deans to ensure classes that typically meet in 161 William will have an alternate place to meet for the remainder of the Spring 2023 semester.

Content Tutoring for the Learning Commons has moved to E201 in the Birnbaum Library at One Pace Plaza.

Career Services is available virtually, via phone, and on our Pleasantville Campus.
As a general reminder about safety, please note that the NYC Office of Emergency Management and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection are conducting air monitoring and air quality tests in and around our campus buildings and the area closer to the collapse. They began their monitoring on the day of the accident and will continue past the completion of the garage demolition. They are actively monitoring for asbestos contamination and have not observed any asbestos in the air.
Representatives from Pace are meeting several times a day with NYC’s Office of Emergency Management, first responders, the Department of Environmental Protection, and other stakeholders; if we receive new information or the situation changes, we will promptly notify our students and staff.
