What's Next - Public Hearing Schedule

Save the dates now. Stay engaged and informed

Dear Friends,

Following SOHO’s Preservation Alert urging participation, nearly 50 people attended the City’s October 3 virtual workshop on "Amendments and Recommendations for Package A" of the City’s Preservation and Progress initiative. A dozen community members and preservation advocates spoke for up to four minutes each, ensuring ample time for public comment and thoughtful testimony.

Important details and concerns were again presented directly to City staff, many of which have been raised in previous correspondence and communication but remain unaddressed in the latest draft amendments.

SOHO, Mission Hills Heritage, and the University Heights Historical Society have all submitted detailed letters outlining these standing issues to the HRB policy committee held on Monday, October 13, as well as new problems introduced by the City’s proposed changes. These letters are linked below so you can review the full context of our shared advocacy and to understand the details of what is being pushed by the city.

The City is fast-tracking Package A through a series of hearings and recommendations. The Policy Committee dismissed the preservation community’s input.

The current timeline is as follows

  • October 23, 2025 – Historical Resources Board (Recommendation)
    Agenda and how to attend
  • October 28, 2025 – Community Planners Committee (Recommendation)
  • November 6, 2025 – Planning Commission (Recommendation)
  • December 11, 2025 – Land Use & Housing Committee (Recommendation)

SOHO will continue to monitor each stage closely and provide updates and action alerts as these meetings unfold.

We encourage all preservation supporters to stay engaged and informed. Your attendance, voice, and letters could make a difference. Together, we can try to ensure that preservation remains central to San Diego’s progress rather than lost in the name of it.
