Please note the following detour, lane closure and night work updates for the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements projects in Norfolk and Virginia Beach:

Curlew Drive

  • Curlew Drive will remain closed near the I-64 underpass until approximately late April for underground utility work. Traffic is detoured via Military Highway, I-264 and Newtown Road. Access will remain open to all residences, businesses and streets off of Curlew Drive.

Kempsville Road

  • Kempsville Road is reduced to one lane in each direction near the I-264 underpass for bridge reconstruction work.

  • Southbound Kempsville Road will close 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights at the I-264 underpass through late March, and from 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday the next two weekends (March 15-18 and March 22-25). Traffic is detoured to Newtown Road during the closures.

Newtown and Greenwich Roads

  • Motorists will encounter recurring daytime single-lane closures on Newtown and Greenwich roads when traveling through the project area.

  • Shoulders along I-64 and I-264 are closed for construction. Motorists should expect night-time lane closures on the interstates when traveling through the project area.
