A single lane closure on I-84 between Franklin Blvd. and 11th Avenue remains in place today after a protective layer of concrete failed to cure overnight.
Last night, crews applied a polyester polymer concrete (PPC) overlay which did not cure in time for the morning commute. The overlay material is designed to be a wearable, replaceable surface that also protects bridge decks from the infiltration of deicing salts and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
The right lane on eastbound I-84 near Franklin Blvd. (Exit 36) remains closed as crews monitor the material throughout the day to determine if it will harden to withstand traffic. If the overlay does not properly set, crews will remove the material overnight in preparation to re-apply the material in the coming days.
