UPDATE:
Emergency & Critical Care Services at BEVS
We are at capacity, and we need your help!
As many of you may know, veterinary emergency departments across the country have been consistently at capacity and often only accepting Level 1 Triage cases since early 2020.

We are experiencing the same situation –– and we need your help!

Should your patients need to be referred to our Emergency Department, we ask that you contact us ahead of arrival so we may be prepared and inform you of current wait times and expectations. Due to the high numbers of critical patients, we may need to advise your client to seek care at another hospital. We will provide you with a list of options if needed.

  • Call us 24/7 at (802) 863-2387
OR

This small but critical step will provide better continuity of care, prompt communication, and real-time access to your patient’s medical records (if you use our online portal).

The best relationships successfully serve the interests of both partners. We continue to work toward our goal of supporting you, your practice, and your patients in a manner that works well for all parties. We hope you’ll help us ensure a smooth transfer of your patients.

If you have any questions about our emergency services or other specialties or would like to discuss a patient, please call us at 802.863.BEVS (2387).
Other ways to help your clients prepare for an emergency:
Because of our current challenges, we are increasingly forced to treat only the most urgent cases. To avoid overwhelming our emergency department, we respectfully ask that you:

  • Educate your clients on common emergencies and when to seek urgent care. We recently published a blog post, “What Is an Emergency – and What Is Not?” that we encourage you to share to help clients assess their pets at home before seeking emergency care.

  • Consider setting up a telehealth or virtual triage option, such as GuardianVets, or urgent care service for your clients. If you do not have the time or resources to set this up yourself, consider referring your clients to one of the following online options: Petriage.com or VetTriage.com (for virtual triage/assessment), and/or Vetster.com (an on-demand telehealth option).

  • Ask your clients to call us ahead of time so we can set realistic expectations for their wait time. We know that every pet that is ill or injured may feel urgent to your clients, but we must also minimize frustration for them and prepare our team for their arrival.

A Truly Collaborative Approach

The best relationships successfully serve the interests of both partners. Our goal is to support you, your practice, and your patients in a manner that works well for all parties.

Each month, we will be sending you information about our services and other items we hope you find helpful. If you have any questions about our services or would like to discuss a patient, please call us at 802.863.BEVS (2387). To help expedite the referral process, you can fill out our Patient Referral Form online, or visit our Referring Veterinary Portal. We’re here to help in whatever way we can.
COVID-19 Safety Protocols: Curbside Service

For the health and safety of our clients and staff, we are returning to exclusively curbside care until further notice. Please visit our COVID-19 web page for updates, including details on all of our safety protocols related to specialty appointments, visitation, discharge, medication refills, end-of-life options, and more. We are still experiencing a high demand for emergency veterinary services and continue to triage emergency cases to care for the most critically injured or ill pets first.
