January 8, 2026

Although we are in recess, I remain very busy helping constituents, meeting groups, traveling the state to discuss policy, and working on issues for the remainder of this session and in preparation for the short session next year. Please reach out to my office if you need assistance.

North Carolina Academy of Family Physicans Panel

I had the opprotunity to participate in a panel at the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicans annual meeting along side Senators Sawyer, Galey, and Mayfield. During this panel we were able to update everyone on the healthcare policies in NC. Thank you, North Carolina Academy of Family Physicans, for allowing us to participate!

Budget Update

The NC House has passed a very thoughtful budget and continues to stand by the budget we have presented. We are still currently negotiating with the Senate to try and get the budget passed. I will continue to work to support the budget that the House has presented.

Governor Withdraws Unnecessary Medicaid Cuts

The Governor has withdrawn his bad idea to penalize the physicians, hospitals, and other providers. He has admitted that there is money through April. He is the one who chose to cut the payments and hurt patients, not the legislature. The Governor and DHHS need to look more closely at their spending and real needs. I remain committed to required funding for the Medicaid program that serves children, elderly, and the less fortunate and will continue to work to protect patients across the state.

Miss Teen All American- Noelia Velazquez

Miss Teen all American, Noe, visited the General Assembly this week. During her visit I was able to take her on the House floor and talk about the history of the building. Noe is from Greenville and currently studies at High Point University.

Filing for Reelection

This month I officially filed for reelection! My priorites remain clear: protecting taxpayer dollars, raise teacher pay to the highest in the southeast, protect and fully fund Medicaid, support law enforcement and first responders, and ensure that our community has a strong healthcare system. I look forward to representing Pitt County in the NC House.

Kind Behavioral Health

Last month I was able to tour the Kind Behavioral Health in Greenville. This facility treats autism and it a wonderful facility. Thank you for having me out for a tour!
