Rep. Dr. Tim Reeder Appointed to North Carolina Health Care Affordability Commission

GREENVILLE, N.C. (July 1, 2026) – Representative Dr. Tim Reeder (R-Pitt) has been appointed by Governor Josh Stein to serve as a voting member of the newly established North Carolina Health Care Affordability Commission to identify practical solutions for reducing health care costs and improving access to quality care across the state.

The bipartisan commission is co-chaired by State Treasurer Brad Briner and NC Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Dev Sangvai, and brings together legislative leaders, health care providers, insurers, researchers, and patient advocates to develop recommendations that improve affordability while strengthening North Carolina's health care system.

As Chairman of the House Health Committee and a practicing emergency physician, Reeder will bring both frontline clinical experience and legislative leadership to the commission's work.

"As an emergency physician, I have seen firsthand how the rising cost of health care affects patients and families. As a legislator, I understand the importance of finding solutions that improve affordability without sacrificing quality or access."

North Carolinians expect us to work together to lower costs, strengthen our health care workforce, expand access to primary care, and ensure that rural communities continue to have access to high-quality medical services. The commission has been tasked with examining key drivers of health care costs, including increasing transparency, promoting competition, addressing workforce shortages, expanding access to primary care, exploring value-based care models, and identifying strategies to improve affordability in rural North Carolina.

"As both a physician and legislator, my priority has always been ensuring patients receive the care they need when they need it," Reeder added. "I am committed to bringing the perspective of patients, physicians, healthcare providers, and communities to this important work."

The commission will meet throughout the coming months and deliver recommendations to the Governor by January 2027.
