June 15th, 2026

The short session is underway and moving quickly. The last week has been dedicated to discussing, reviewing, and passing legislation. As a member of the House, I am committed to making thoughtful decisions that support public safety, strengthen our economy, and improve the quality of life for families throughout our state. I look forward to continuing this work during the session and keeping constituents informed on the progress being made in Raleigh.

House Oversight Hearing

Last week the NC House Oversight Committee held a hearing regarding the tragic death of 6 year old Dominique Moody. The hearing made one thing painfully clear: our child welfare system failed this little girl. Dominique Moody lost her life because Mecklenburg County DSS failed to take action when warning signs were repeatedly brought to their attention. This hearing was not just about accountability, it was about making sure  no other child falls through the cracks of a broken system. Members of the House have made it clear that there is a need for reform to strengthen oversight, improve communication between agencies, and ensure that DSS workers and supervisors are held accountable when they fail to protect vulnerable children. Dominique Moody’s story is heartbreaking, but lawmakers now have a responsibility to honor her memory by making meaningful changes that protect children across North Carolina.

Meetings With Folks

This week during session I was able to meet with various groups. I met with a group of Speech Pathologists a group of ECU medical students for their legislation day, and the Pitt County Commisioners. It is always good to meet with groups to discuss their work, legislation, and advocacy.

Signing of the Last Beam of the Brody Center for Medical Education

This week I had the honor of participating in the signing and placing of the last beam of the Brody Center for Medical Education. Thank you to ECU's Brody School of Medicine for inviting me.

Honorary Page

This week I was able to host honorary page Holt Hilton. Holt was able to sit in on session, learn more about how the NC General Assembly works and have great discussion. Thank you, Holt for coming down for the day!
