Iryna's Law

Last week the House went back into session to pass Iryna's Law. This piece of legislation was brought forth after the senseless murder of Iryna Zarutska happened in Charlotte NC. This bill will end cashless bail and have stricter rules for violent offenders. The bill has been sent to the governor and is awaiting his signature.

Up on the Hill with Congressman Murphy

This month I took a trip up to DC and was able to meet with Congressman Murphy. During our meeting we were able to discuss Medicaid and Rural healthcare in NC. We were also able to discuss the Federal Budget and other topics during our meeting together.

Duke Street Pediatric Dentistry Visit

Last week I was able to visit Duke Street Pediatrics Dentistry. During this time I was able to get a tour of the office and able to watch the dentists in action. We were also able to discuss Medicaid cuts and how that would affect the practice. Thank you Duke Street Pediatrics Dentistry!

ECU Art Students Visit

Last week a few of recent graduates from ECU's art program came and visited the General Assembly. During their visit I was able to give them a tour of the House floor and talk about the history of some of the art hanging on the House floor. I always enjoy being able to take students on the House floor and give them a tour!

Achieving Excellence in Education: Strategic Plan for Public Schools in Greenville

I was honored to attend the Achieving Excellence in Education presentation in Greenville. I was able to hear Superintendent Lassiter of Pitt County and Mo Green, Superintendent of Public Instruction

speak about the strategic plan for Public Schools. I was also able to hear the Hope Middle School Chorus perform.

Pitt County Fun Fact!

In 1760 Pitt County was formed from Beaufort County, but the legislatve act that created it did not go in effect till January 1761.
