The NC House overrode Governor Stein's veto to HB 318, The Criminal Illegal Alien Enforcment Act. This bill requires law enforcement to corporate with ICE. This bill will keep people safe and improve NC.
The House also overrode SB 254, Charter School Changes. This bill amends Charter school laws, establishes the role of the State Board of Education for Charter schools, establishes a NC Charter schools review board, and creates a NC office of Charter schools. This bill will help improve the education here in North Carolina.
HB 805, Prevent Sexual Exploitation/ Women and Minors, was overridden as well. This bill will prevent the sexual exploitation of women and minors. It will also protect minors from having pornographic images published or allowing them to publish the pictures. This bill will help ensure the safety of minors and women here in NC.
HB 193, Firearm Law Revisions, was put into law last week. This bill will allow nonpublic schools to have approved personnel carry certain weapons on campus when approved by school administrative director or the School Board of Trustees. This bill will help to continue the protection of children in NC.
HB 402, Limit Rules with Substantial Financial Costs, was put into law after Governor Stein's veto was overridden. This piece of legislation will save taxpayers money and prevent bureaucratic waste.
SB 266, The Power Bill Reduction Act, was also put into law last week. This bill will help make energy more affordable for the people of NC and save NC taxpayers nearly $13 billion.
SB 416, The Personal Privacy Protection Act, was also overridden. This bill will prohibit public agencies from collecting, disclosing, or releasing information about donors, members, and volunteers of a non-profit organization. This piece of legislation will help keep the privacy for people in NC.
HB 549, Clarify Powers of State Auditor, was put into law. This law makes the powers of the NC State Auditor clear. This bill ensures the balance of powers within the NC Government.
Last week I had the opportunity to take a tour of Hyster Yale. Hyster Yale manufactures forklifts, and I was able to take a tour of the plant in Greenville. Thank you, Hyster Yale for having me!
Pitt County Fun Fact
In 1939 the City of Greenville opened a new City Hall located on the corner of Fifth and Washington Street. The building was constructed by one of eastern North Carolina’s leading architects, Frank W. Benton of Wilson, in an Art Deco style.
