Behavioral Health Hospital Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

ECU has opened a new behavioral health hospital, and I was able to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony. As an ECU Physician and Legislator, this hospital is vital to patients and the future success of rural health care. I've been proud to be part of the ECU Health community for many years. I know many of the staff and physicians working here, and I am confident that this facility will deliver high-quality care in an educational environment.

This year, I was able to participate in a school supply drop-off at Ayden Elementary with supplies donated by staff from the NC Department of Cultural and Natural Resources. It was great to be able to meet everyone and thanks to everyone who donated!

County Commissioners Association

The NC Association of County Commissioners held a panel a few weeks ago with Congressman Murphy, Congressman Davis, Representative Brown, and me. During this panel, we were able to give insight as to issues and developments at the state and federal levels. Thank you, NC Association of County Commissioners, for inviting me out to speak.

Statement on Medicaid Reimbursement Cuts

I am deeply disappointed by the recent proposal from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to significantly reduce reimbursement rates for healthcare providers who care daily for our state’s most vulnerable citizens. In recent years, the General Assembly and NCDHHS have worked closely to build a strong Medicaid program that delivers essential services to vulnerable populations. As a practicing physician, I understand firsthand the challenge of providing quality care when reimbursement rates may not even cover the cost of services. These proposed cuts will have a substantial negative impact on every provider serving Medicaid patients, with serious consequences for access to care across North Carolina. Unfortunately, the current proposal places the burden of savings almost entirely on providers. Medicaid is a lifeline for many North Carolinians, and we cannot rely solely on provider cuts to solve budget challenges. Instead, we must focus on long-term, structural solutions—expanding value-based care arrangements, reviewing programs for cost-effectiveness, eliminating wasteful spending, and improving operational efficiency.

Contentnea Health Meeting

Contentnea Health and I were able to have a meeting in Greenville to discuss 340B and all the great work they are continuing to do. We were also able to talk about the proposed Medicaid cuts and how that would impact our Community Health Centers.

Greenville Chamber of Commerce

I was honored to be able to participate in a Legislative breakfast. During this time, I was able to meet with constituents to learn from them and give them updates on my work at the NCGA.
